I reach out my hand towards Garrick, frowning at how bad my hand was shaking. He smiles, not mentioning anything about it, which makes my shoulders relax slightly. I'm not the best at making friends, but I hope I can be friends with him. Xaden stands close by, watching our interaction with a small smile on his face.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Ainsley." I say softly and Garrick's smile widens, shaking my hand. His grip is strong, but oddly comforting, almost like a big brother. He lets go of my hand and I let mine drop to my sides, nervous about messing up everything.
"You seem nervous." He says and I nod slightly. He waves me off, before throwing his arm over my shoulders, squeezing me slightly. "Don't worry, Squirt. We don't bite, well maybe he does."
"Hey!" Xaden yelps, glaring at Garrick and I let out a small laugh, which pleases both Garrick and Xaden.
"He does seem like the type to bite." I say, looking over at Xaden and his eyes narrow more. Garrick lets out a loud laugh, shaking my shoulders in the process.
"I like her, she's my new best friend." Garrick states confidently and I smile widely at the thought of having a best friend. I've never had one. He ignores Xaden's protests as he leads me into the house, whistling.
"I never should have invited him." Xaden mumbles and I smile slightly.
"Oh buck up! We can all be best friends." Garrick shouts over his shoulder and Xaden comes up on my other side, smiling widely.
"Deal."
"I've never had a best friend before." I say, causing both of the boys to look over at me in shock. They halt in their steps, turning fully towards me.
"Ever?" They both say in unison and I nod.
"Ever."
"That's the saddest thing I've ever heard." Garrick says, tightening his hold around my shoulders as a way to comfort me. My cheeks flare in embarrassment. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. "Xaden and I will be the best, best friends you ever have!"
