I let out a sigh of relief as I jump down the parapet's edge with ease. The one thing that my father was good for was training me since I was a kid. He was tough and took any excuse to punish me for not getting it right the first try, but at least it helped me through the parapet. Even if those many training sessions left scars scattered across my body, hidden of course. We can't have anyone thinking he beat his child in public could we?
I shake my head bitterly at the images that filled my mind at those many excruciating hours of being alone in a room with him. Never again.
"Name?" the rider next to me asks, not interested in looking up at me and was focused on the scroll in her hand. That's fair, I'd be bored too if I have to as that every time a candidate made it across the parapet. I open my mouth to respond, but am cut when when I hear a grunt. I spin around to see Violet pulling herself up off the ground, putting most of her wait on her right side. Dammit Sorrengail.
I look past her and see some boy angrily charging right for Violet. I react, before thinking it through, and rip a dagger from a sheath resting on my thigh just as this boy stops right above us on the parapet. Murder is swirling through his eyes and I know it's aimed for Violet and will be for me in a matter of seconds. Before he can jump down, I press the tip of my dagger against his breeches -- against his balls.
"I think the fuck not." I hiss, glaring up at him as Violet stands behind me watching the events go down. The boys glacial blue eyes glare down at me, but I can see shock surface in his eyes before it disappears. He never saw me coming.
"Can't fight your own battles, Sorrengail? Have to have your bodyguard protect you?" He hisses and I press my dagger further into his pants.
"She can fight her own battles, but I am rather blood thirsty right now." I say with lethal calm as a smirk makes it way onto my face. The slight panic in his eyes, makes it all worth it. Even if I will have a target on my back after this.
"It is unlawful for a riders to cause another harm. While in a quadrant formation or in the supervisory. Presence of a superior-ranking cadet," Violet recites from the fucking Codex and I shake my head. Her and the damn rules. Some rules that are unfair for a certain group of people with shimmering relics on their arms. I hate that Codex. "As it will diminish the efficacy of the wing. And given the crowd behind us, I think it's clear to argue that it's a formation. Article Three, Section --"
