"Are you sure?"
"Trust me."
She gripped his hand a little tighter. "Lead the way."
Revali checked on Muzu's position again before gently pulling her through the crowd towards one of the doors to the gardens. The guards raised eyebrows at them, but as Revali predicted they said nothing and did not try to stop them.
The gardens were very different from most others Revali had seen. This garden was half full of ground plant, scattered around deep, crystal-clear pools of water full of frogs, aquatic plants, and colorful fish. He kept pulling her through until they were a fair distance away from the building, stopping by a luminous stone bench.
Mipha released Revali's hand with a sigh and sat down, looking relieved. Revali opted to stay standing. "Better?"
"Much better," she looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you, Revali."
His eyes widened slightly at her lack of title and then he grinned back. "You're welcome, Mipha."
They fell silent, listening to the rushing waterfalls and faint sound of music from the party. "Revali?"
"Hm."
"What's it like to fly?"
His eyebrow arched up and he thought a moment. "Goddess, Mipha, I don't think there's any way to really explain it. I guess...I guess it like freedom. Knowing you can go wherever you want if you fly far enough and that gravity can't forever bind you to the ground."
She stood, eyes full of curiosity. "How does it work? Do you just take off?"
"I guess. It is a little more complicated than that. Getting off the ground is the hardest part. For most people."
She was clearly studying his wings and for some reason that made him acutely aware of every feather on them. "I say most people cause it can be hard to get enough power to launch straight up from the ground," he felt his pride swell, and couldn't help but strike his favorite pose. "Yet I have created an updraft that allows me to soar. It's considered quite the mastery of aerial techniques, even among the Rito."
"Will you show me?"
Revali thought a moment, mentally checking himself over. The suit he was wearing wasn't optimal but...to hell with it. "Take a step back."
She did, nearly tripping over her shimmering dress. He chuckled. "I said step, not trip."
"Oh hush, you!"
He smirked, flaring his wings out and dropping into a crouch. He pressed the tips of his wings to the ground, steadying himself with his palm flat on the damp grass. He felt the familiar surge of power and a strong wind kicked up around him, rustling the nearby plants and his hair. He pushed off, stretching his wings out and launched straight into the sky.
He heard Mipha's delighted cry and he spun in the middle of the whirlwind, throwing his wings open at the top and hovering there. Looking down, he saw Mipha staring up at him, hair mussed and a smile on her face. Eager to show off, he banked left, swooping around in an arc. With a single powerful flap of his wings, he shot upwards again, swooping down into a dive. Just when it seemed like he was going to face plant on the ground, he spun, landing gracefully on his feet.
Mipha started clapping. "That was incredible!"
He dropped into a bow, looking back up at her with a smile etched on his face. "Well, I know I'm good."
She giggled and he straightened, smiling back. "Thank you for showing me, Revali."
"Don't mention it."
