Usually Revali loved being left alone at parties. Now he felt dismally misplaced.
Heels clacked up behind him and he turned, expecting another Lady from one of the various kingdoms. His eyebrow shot up as a familiar magenta-haired princess joined him, dropping into a slight curtsy. "Prince Revali."
"Princess Mipha," he bowed as was required. "I was starting to wonder where you've been. Almost thought you weren't attending."
"Well, it is my own engagement party. It would be rather silly for me not to attend." She smiled, but it seemed subdued.
"Are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
Revali wasn't convinced. He stepped in front of her, taking in the shimmering silvery-blue dress she wore and the intricate bun her hair was up in. He quickly set his glass down on a nearby table, offering her his hand. "I remember the very first time we met, you said you loved to dance. I assume that's still the case?"
"Well...yes," her eyebrow lifted slowly. "And if I remember correctly, you were a terrible dancer."
"I was five," Revali defended. "And I didn't pay attention in the classes back at then. So," he wiggled his fingers slightly. "Will you dance with me?"
She studied his hand for a long moment before finally slipping her fingers into his. "Alright."
He found himself smiling, leading her over to the dance floor. He was aware of the eyes on them, hearing the whispers of the partygoers. He didn't care what they were saying. His only goal was to get Mipha to smile again.
As they started moving with the music, a look of pleasant surprise crossed Mipha's face and Revali snorted. "I told you I've improved."
"You're have. I was wrong to doubt you." Her eyes seemed to dart about, landing on his face a few times before jumping away. She finally settled for staring at his chest.
This went on for a few minutes until Revali stopped abruptly, causing Mipha to step on his foot. "Ow."
Her eyes snapped up. "I'm sorry!"
"It didn't even hurt," That was a lie. It did a bit. "Look, is what happened still bothering you?"
She pursed her lips and after a long, dragging moment, nodded. "Something like this never would've bothered me before but...Muzu's words have been worming into my mind. I am so acutely aware of my every move and its...awful."
Revali let a slow breath, contemplating. He knew she didn't want to be in this room just by her nervous behavior and evasion of eye contact. He suddenly grabbed her hand, looking earnestly into her gaze, which had settled on him in surprise. "Lets get out of here."
Her eyes widened. "Prince Revali, we can't. The people--"
"To hell with the people!" He leaned forward slightly, holding her hand up. "Who cares what they say? We're people too, royalty or not! Let them talk because they're going to anyway. You shouldn't deny yourself emotions just to uphold some kind of image."
She glanced around and for a moment, Revali was worried he had pushed her too far. Then she looked up at him, golden eyes flashing. "We have to sneak past Muzu. If he sees us leave, we're done for."
Revali smirked. "You happen to be talking to a master escapee. I've snuck out of more parties than I can count."
To his delight, she giggled. "I'm not surprised. How do we do this?"
Revali stretched his neck up, looking over the crowd to find Muzu at the refreshments table, the Royal Advisor's back turned. "We head to that door to our right, into the gardens. The guards won't say anything."
