More and more missiles were launched and exploded on the target.
But after the smoke cleared, it still stood. The walls blackened, windows shattered, the traces of their attacks everywhere, but the structure was hardly damaged.
Slowly, the soldiers laying siege around the hospital heard a chant. A language that hadn't been heard outside an ymbryne's classroom for centuries.
"That can't be..." Albiar murmured as he watched the building they so desperately wanted to bring down being covered in a faint green glow.
"They are inside!" Albiar warned as ashes and bones rained down from the sky like hails of doom. A desolation had started.
"Fire anything you have! Destroy the hospital."
Countless missiles soared through the sky, but before any of them could make contact, the green glowed stronger, and the missiles slowed down.
Then, as if seized by an invisible hand, they all turned around in a split second and rocketed back at the Nightshade Legions beneath them.
Albiar watched as walls around him came tumbling down. Then the very floor beneath his feet crumbled.

A pelvis missed Emma's head.
She jumped down from the truck as bones slammed into the vehicle, denting the metal hull, shattering the glass.
John and Blanche froze in shock as more bones and ashes rained down from the sky. The soldier that was sent to escort them pushed John away as a broken femur fell on him. The bone penetrated his bullet-proof vest, piercing deep into his back.
"Run! Take cover!" he shouted.
John and Blanche ran at him, but a skull landed on his exposed face, killing him instantly.
"We need to take cover!" Emma said. "The desolation started."
A knuckle hit Blanche's head. "We can't just run around in the open!" she said.
"Then hurry!" Emma replied and charged toward their destination, Olive's team's arsenal.
They ran across the base, dodging hails of bones along the way, until they saw Khione holding the door open, waiting for their arrival.
"Get in!" she said, "Miss Bittern and Olive are already here."
They rushed in, and Caroline handed John and Blanche their weapon.
Olive, Miss Bittern and Sophie were discussing something in a corner.
"Come join us, Emma." Miss Bittern spoke.
"What are you doing? We are under attack!" Emma said.
"We are all aware of that." Olive replied, "But Albiar's army will hold them for now. We have a more pressing matter at hand."
Emma came forward and saw a map lay unfolded on a table.
"As you have guessed, we have a panloopticon," Francesca started, "And we planned to use it to search for a great and ancient power, one that rivals even that of Caul's, the Suul of the ancestor of all ymbrynes. We call it the Mother of Birds."
"The giant that can control time." Emma recalled her conversation with Sharon.
"Our plan was to use this loop and the panloopticon as an operation center, but since our enemy has found us, that need to change." Olive said.
"Olive's team will escort us as we look for this power." Sophie said, "And we hope you can join us. You and your friends." She nodded to John and Blanche.
