I swear I didn't plan this ahead.
But damn it, why!!!!
You know what? Don't answer that.
As far as I know, this must be done on purpose.
Curse you, Gandalf!
I sighed as Thorin was the first to enter the thirteenth room whereas I followed, as I stepped into the cramped thirteenth room, the first thing that hit me was the overwhelming scent of musty wood and the faint aroma of ale lingering in the air.
The small window to my right was illuminated by the night sky, while a dim light flickered from the fireplace, casting shadows over a single wooden bed that barely accommodated Thorin and me. Tension lingered in the air, thick and stubborn as the shadows.
"Looks like we're sharing," I said, trying to feel awkward despite the gravity of the crazy situation we're in right now.
Thorin raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms defiantly. "This is hardly acceptable. I'm not inclined to share a room with anyone, least of all—"
"Least of all a burglar?" I cut him off, my tone light but my eyes serious: "Look, Thorin, I get it. You're a king, heir to the throne of Erebor, or whatever that means, but we don't have much of a choice here. So either we take turns on the bed or...well, be miserable together."
He sighed out of frustration with it etching across his features, "This is certainly not what I had in mind when we decided to seek out your services, Lightwood."
"Right, but guess what? The universe is full of surprises." I sarcastically cheered, "You never know who's going to end up sharing a room again."
I threw him a cheeky grin, but he didn't bite.
"Traveling to the Lonely Mountain and killing a dragon is hardly the same as sharing a room with a...house burglar," he muttered under his breath, clearly against the idea.
I couldn't help but chuckle at the irony of it all.
Being in this situation with a character I once only fantasized about in fanfics was now hilarious, "Look," I pinch my nose out of annoyance at this dwarf to continue: "I'm happy to let you take the bed if you'd just trust me to keep to my side of the floor and not snore too badly."
"Not snoring isn't my concern," he replied, glancing toward the bed as if it had personally insulted him.
'I know you don't. That's why I'm pretending to believe you would, even though, really, in your world, you don't snore.' I wanted to say, but I kept quiet and continued arguing a bit.
By narrowing my eyes at him, "Y'know, if you keep acting like this, I'll make sure that the next time we face something else that isn't monsters, I'll let you handle the affair on your own. Thirteen dwarves and the king to save, and yet I'm the one stuck fighting off awkward sleeping arrangements."
