"They probably won't come out now." Emma said.
"Ethan and Khione will deal with them." Caroline replied.
The two soldiers left on the first van was ready to fire their rifles. But when Ethan teared down the locked door, their whole hand froze and turned numb. They watched in horror as Ethan pulled their guns away one by one, ripping off their arms along with it. Then before the soldier could react, Ethan killed them both with a punch.
The rest of the soldiers were quickly annihilated. Edmund and Khione undressed them and dragged them into the supply truck and Caroline went to work on something with those bodies.
With Ethan's help, Emma wielded the van's door back to the vehicle, hoping a car with all the doors intact would attract less attention than one without.
Olive checked the three vehicles and declared that these soldiers weren't carrying anything important.
Then the team put on the bloodstained uniforms over their bulletproof clothe made from peculiar wool, while Olive put on a titanium body armor that both protected her and kept her grounded. The armor's weight distribution also allowed for better movement and balance than her lead shoes.
After all the preparations were done, they sped across the desolated land.
A distance away, gleaming under the silvery moon, Fort Atropos awaited its invaders' arrival.
*
The supply truck and its convoy passed through the gate.
The truck was directed to a discharge area, and the other two vehicles were led to a garage.
An officer pulled the truck's back door open and was greeted by ten half-naked men sitting next to each other, blocking the supplies.
"What the hell are you doing? Unload the stuff!" he barked.
One by one, the men stood up. And that's when he noticed, the stiffness of their movements and the dark purple hue on their skin. They were all dead.
Then the nearest corpse grasped his throat and choked the life out of him.
Behind the reanimated corpses, one lone girl stood up. The two soldiers around them raised their weapons, but a wave of coldness pierced them like a blade.
They dropped dead, muscles stiffened.
Caroline pushed through the reanimated corpses and climbed down to examine Khione's new victims.
"Their hearts are fresh, I can work with them," Caroline said as she cut open their chest.
"We need to hurry," Edmund's voice emerged next to her. "They will notice these people are missing soon."
Caroline pulled her hand out of the last soldier's ribcages. "Get up, you three," she ordered.
The dead soldiers obeyed like wind-up toys.
"Well done," Khione said, "now let's go make some troubles for wights." Then she pulled out her gun and fired at the alarm.
It screamed into every last corner of Fort Atropos.
At the opposite side of the base, Olive knocked on the van's door. "We need to move now. The distraction started."
*
The team dispatched to check on the supply was greeted by a thick smoke covering the area, accompanied by a chill running down their spine.
A soldier walked forward, rifle pointing at the smoke. Then he heard a low guttural rumble, something unnatural but distinctly human.
