A few days after prom, Jayce leaned casually against Viktor's dorm room door, balancing two cups of coffee in his hands and wearing that familiar, confident grin that somehow always managed to disarm Viktor. He knocked lightly, his knuckles tapping against the wood.
"Come on, Vik," Jayce called, his tone teasing yet warm. "We're going out."
A moment later, Viktor opened the door, his eyebrows drawn together in a mix of confusion and mild irritation. "Out? Where?" he asked, glancing at the coffee in Jayce's hands and then back at his face.
Jayce didn't answer immediately. Instead, he handed Viktor one of the cups, his grin widening. "You'll see," he said mysteriously. Then, after a short pause, he added, "Consider it... a date."
Viktor raised an eyebrow, his gaze narrowing in suspicion. "You're very persistent," he muttered, though he accepted the coffee without further argument.
"And you love it," Jayce shot back without missing a beat, turning and heading down the hallway with a jaunty stride. Viktor lingered for a moment, shaking his head before following after him.

The café was tucked away down a quiet street near campus, its cozy interior glowing warmly from the sunlight streaming through large windows. The soft hum of conversation and the clinking of mugs created a comforting backdrop, while the air was rich with the scent of freshly brewed coffee and buttery pastries.
Jayce immediately steered them to a table by the window, the golden light catching on Viktor's face as he sat down, making the sharp angles of his features look softer. Jayce couldn't help but smile at the sight before busying himself with the menu.
When the server arrived, Jayce ordered something chocolatey, his enthusiasm for dessert shining through as he added a few extra details about what he wanted. Viktor, on the other hand, opted for a plain croissant, his choice simple yet somehow fitting.
As they waited, Jayce leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table and smirking. "Alright, serious question. If you could invent anything like, no limits, what would it be?"
Viktor paused mid-sip of his coffee, lowering the cup as he mulled over the question. After a moment, he tore off a piece of his croissant, his voice thoughtful. "A machine to heal. Something that could replace damaged organs, repair nerves... make life easier for people like me."
Jayce's playful expression softened, genuine admiration shining in his eyes. "That's... incredible. And totally you," he said, his voice sincere.
Viktor's lips twitched into a small, almost shy smile. "And you?" he asked, tilting his head. "What would you invent?"
Jayce leaned back, crossing his arms as if seriously considering the question. After a dramatic pause, he grinned. "Probably a device that could make you laugh more. You're way too serious, you know."
Viktor huffed, rolling his eyes. "Perhaps you're just not funny enough," he deadpanned, though the faint blush creeping up his neck betrayed his amusement.
"Ouch," Jayce said, clutching his chest in mock offense. "That one hurt. I think I need another croissant to recover from that burn."
Viktor shook his head, but there was a warmth in his gaze as he watched Jayce flag down the server, laughter bubbling quietly under the surface of their conversation.
