Just a month ago I was on land, eating hot food and watching movies with my brother. But now, a month later, I was deep beneath the sea level told to risk my life for a sliver of a chance at freedom.
I was told about where I was, Urbanshade. And that I'd be going down into the Hadal Blacksite for the crystal the worker has told me about. They gave me equipment and sent me down in a sub with 3 other strangers to the Blacksite. They gave me the option to attempt with others or alone, but I didn't want to be alone. The idea itself was more terrifying, risking my life with no help? Awful.

The air in the Blacksite was heavy and hard to breathe. That with the combined weight of the equipment I felt significantly much slower than I would be.

A click sounded over the intercom followed by the voice of someone from HQ. "As discussed during your briefing, your primary objective is to secure and bring back the crystal. Your secondary objective is to secure as many loose assets as possible. You've been equipped with a diving tank, allowing you to navigate any potentially flooded areas. You've also been equipped with a Crystal Container, used for securing the crystal if, er, when you reach it." His fuck up discouraged my bravery from rearing it's head. Not that I'd have much of it regardless. "You have permission to use any additional equipment you may find. Our Navi-Path AI system has marked the shortest route possible to your primary objective. It should be noted, that you'll mostly be left on your own, as we are currently busy managing multiple teams. We will tune in from time to time, if it matters in the moment. Open the door, and proceed when ready." He finished.

My teammates began to look around, looting random assets. Nervously, I joined them, grabbing a blue vial and a manilla folder. I didn't know any of these people's names and I certainly had no reason to trust any of them.

I stayed at the back of the group as the three walked through the first door.

After the first door my eyes caught on to a locker, I opened it up. I noticed the odd detail of the handles on the inside of the door.

"I guess I could hide here if need be..." I pondered.

The group began to continue on, already a door or two ahead of me. I hurried my pace, my path straight ahead to the others as they continued to loot everything they could when the lights flickered.

"Hm, I wonder what that is" one of the teammates wondered.
"Probably nothing. This place is in shitty condition as is" another responded, little to no care for the place.
"You sure? Like, maybe we shouldn't like, hide or something?"

I didn't bother listening to them any more, my senses were alert to something else in the building. "Something's coming." I spoke to myself. "Guys, something is coming. We have to hide!" I repeated, yelling at my teammates as my eyes caught a glimpse through the door.

A monster nearing in the distance. A grey and scaly beast with a mouth bigger than I was tall. Filled with rows of sharp teeth. Its dead eyes locked onto me, causing me to shiver in fear.

"But-"my more lax teammate tried to argue.
"JUST HIDE!" I yelled back and got into a locker. The sound of other lockers opening and shutting sounded around me.

I gripped the inside handles with all my might as I felt it pass by. It's scream dull, like a constant whoosh of air then followed by the sound of glass shattering. Then darkness. It must have broken the lights. Great, just great. It's scream left a ringing in my ears as I finally peeked out into pure darkness. I heard other lockers open. I glanced around for any kind of light to find nothing.

"Do any of you have something to help us see. I can't find the door..." I spoke clearly so the others could hear me.

"No, nothing on me."
"Me either, I don't think a flashlight was part of the equipment given..."
"Mhm"
