Annabeth's POV

"What are your inputs?" Sam asks-uh-I don't know who.The meeting is playing in the back as basically music while I draw out a plan for the school budget.

I'm again stuck in a stupid meeting about the infrastructure,I mean don't get me wrong,as a politician all aspects of the community are important. It is just that my party loves to discuss about infrastructure every other day.

I'd much rather talk about the school, the future of our government and country but no,the devil and manager have worked out some scheme to make my work life miserable.

I zone out, drawing out the format of classroom, basically daydreaming but nobody pays attention to me anyways,so I should be good.
I suddenly feel a sudden shake to my side.Oh my god is it an earthquake? my mind furiously runs to the thought.I push that vision aside but what was the actual reason of the shaking was much worse than an earthquake.

"Yes,miss Rose is it? what is so found going about in your brain that you couldn't give your simple inputs even after Samuel asking you a dozen times?" The director of my party speaks, his voice commanding.

The shake was from, well, shaking of my shoulder to wake me up.My cheeks turn red at the sudden realisation and I sit up straight before glancing at the screen.
Just as expected there was a huge blueprint of the newest power plant our party would be making.

"Umm well the building layout seems just lovely and the budget seems to be a nice addition,I think there is to be no complaints on my front" I quickly blurt out without wasting further more time.

"Ah well I would agree with that thought of Miss rose's just one more thing...." The director's voice is dragged out by the sudden ringing of the alarm, indicating lunch time.

Without another word everyone seems to empty out of the Meeting room heading towards their respective cubicles or offices.

I remain the last one along with the director, a glint in his eyes, showcasing an emotion I couldn't quite put my finger on.

"I'm extremely sorr-"
"You will be running for mayor this run" his sharp voice cuts off my teeny apology.

What? me? mayor?um no.no.no.
I don't run for those sort of things.
marathons?sure.
Black Friday sale?love em.
But the election for mayor?oh good gracious no.

These runs were made for people like, Sam.Me on the other hand, am happy for helping the people in any way shape or form.
But,it was a huge opportunity that could open up many doors for me.
I'm not dumb,I might be scared as hell but I wouldn't give up the chance of the century for some stupid nerves.

"Really?" My voice comes out squeaky and high.
"Ive been eyeing you for the past few weeks now and I can see you have the vigour, all you need is a little push here and a little pressure there" his voice low and serious.

"Well thank you,I mean I don't know how to thank you. Really this has been a dream of mine since I can remember. I promise I will make you proud" my eyes glassy with unshed tears of joy.

"Well that's why I chose you" he passes me a cheesy grin. "You will be opposing David Blackwood for the debates and galas. Now I've checked your record and you've had some experience competing with Blackwood, isn't that right?"

My heart crashes at the sound of his name. The bane of all my existence. The one politician I did not want to get was opposing me for what will be the most important race of my life. The devil had really cooked up some magic for me today.

"Yes sir,we've professionally debated quite a few times now" I purposely don't take his name.
"Well you must already know his strengths and weaknesses though you haven't met in the last two years." His voice is calm and collected.
"Yes sir,I haven't but from what I can recollect, you may as well give me the mayor tag now" I ease the topic into humour.
"Ah well overconfidence is not a good look on most, but you make it work Ms.rose.All hopes are on you. Make us proud." He passes me a smile. One of those "I don't smile at all but I'm trying for the sake of you" smiles.

"Thank you sir,I won't let you down" I push back the burning sensation at my eyes and continue.
"I'll be going.Your schedule will get more hectic from now on so I propose you don't make any personal plans with certainty. My assistant will send your routines and events planner to your assistant and we can sort out any dilations later." He finishes whilst packing up his bag.

"I don't have an assistant"I blurt out.

"Now you do." He smiles cheekily. "There are certain advantages when one runs for the government. Your new assistant will be sorted out by this afternoon. Enjoy your time now, because from tomorrow, your face is going to be all over town. Paparazzi in your face,no where to eat without getting recognised. What a thrill." he says, reminiscing his time of running at the last line.

"Thank you so much again Sir!I won't let you down." I speak,my voice full of giddy.
"I know you won't" he pats me on the back, using a voice one would you with their daughter.

After he leaves,I'm alone in the meeting room, waiting for the feeling, the adrenaline to settle down but it never does.It feels like I'm on a forever high, well, that is until I remember who I'm up against.

David Blackwood.
