AN: I own nothing except for my OC.
"Pax, you really owe me big time for this." Astrid muttered as she and Pax climbed the walls of the archives to get inside.
"I know, I know. Thank you for helping me. Again." Pax thanked her as they climbed through a window.
"You know I always got your back." Astrid says as she takes down the lasers.
"You're so lucky that you're a queen." Pax praised her.
"Temporary, queen. Until my uncle returns." Astrid reminded him.
The pair found a holographic story about the matrix. Astrid wanted to help her uncle find the matrix since it looks like he hasn't had any luck. And Orion Pax, who is a miner that she befriended, also wanted to help. But her uncle hated seeing her hanging out with the lower class so she had to hang out with him in secret. Astrid played the hologram but the story always end the same way about the matrix.
Orion groaned, "Come on! Why does every story about the matrix end there?"
"I don't know." Astrid sighed. Orion accidentally leaned on something that triggered a security breach.
"Hide! I'll distract them." Astrid told him. Orion went to go hide.
Darkwing and another security guard found Astrid, "Your majesty, what are you doing here?" Darkwing inquired.
Astrid hesitated as she thought of a reason, "Uh my uncle called last night and said that he needed me to get more information for him. So I came to the archives but they were closed today so I needed to sneak in because he needed this information as soon as possible."
Darkwing and the other guard seemed to have believed her and they put down their weapons, "Well, your uncle has returned today. So we'll see if what you're saying is true." Darkwing told her as he grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the archives.
"Hey! You can't do this!" Astrid struggled to get free of his grip.
Darkwing didn't seem to care and he dragged her all the way to the Golden Tower where she and her uncle lived.
"Ah, there she is. I was wondering where you were." Sentinel greeted Astrid with a warm smile.
"I was-" Astrid got cut off, "Breaking into the archives." Darkwing answered for her. Astrid glared at him.
"Breaking into the archives? Now, why would you do such a thing?" Sentinel inquired.
Astrid cleared her throat, "Because I needed to get that information you wanted about the matrix. Remember, you called me last night and asked me to get more information?"
Sentinel laughed, "That's right! I did call her and ask her to get more information for me last night. I can take this from here, Darkwing. You can leave now."
Darkwing huffed and mumbled something about never getting to have any fun and he left. As soon as he left, Sentinel's face got serious.
"Now why were you really in the archives? Because I know damn well it's not because I asked you for more information," Sentinel sighs, "You were hanging out with those miners again, weren't you?"
"No! I went to the archives willingly and Orion just happened to be there at the same time." Astrid defended her friend.
"Orion was there too, you say? Then why wasn't he with you when Darkwing brought you back here?" Sentinel asked.
Astrid mentally facepalmed herself. Why did she mention Orion? She knew Sentinel didn't like him hanging out with her. Astrid hesitated but Sentinel answered for her, "Listen, you can hang out with whoever you want. But I don't like you hanging out with those miners because they don't really want you as a friend, they just care about you because you're royalty and they're using you."
"No, they're not. Orion and D-16 aren't like that." Astrid defended her friends.
"And how can you be so sure about that?" Sentinel folded his arms over his chest.
Astrid was speechless yet again. Sentinel could have been right, and Orion and D-16 were really just using her because she's royalty, or he could be wrong and they really did just want to be her friend and they didn't care about her status in royalty.
"I won't ground you this time," Sentinel says, and Astrid felt relieved, "But it's only because tomorrow is the Iacon 5000. And I want to spend time with you. What do you say?"
Astrid thought for a moment, "Fine. I'll go."
"Great! Now I have to make an announcement to the whole city about the Iacon 5000." Sentinel said.
Later that night, when Astrid was recharging in her private quarters, she heard a knock on her door that led to a balcony outside. She woke up and saw Orion and D-16 waiting for her outside.
"What are you two doing here? My uncle is going to kill you both." Astrid says once she opened the door.
"I tried telling him that but he didn't care." D-16 commented.
Orion rolled his optics, "Whatever. I need to talk to you two. Now. I have a great idea."
Astrid glanced at D-16 who just shrugged his shoulders. Astrid finally gave in and went outside, "Make it quick." She said.
"Okay, okay, what if..what if...you let D and I run in the race tomorrow." Orion says with excitement in his voice.
"That is the most stupid thing I have ever heard," Astrid snapped, "Miners in the Iacon 5000? Are you crazy?"
"Here's an idea. How about I kill you for waking us both up and almost getting caught by security around here?" D-16 suggested.
"Wait, you guys almost got caught by security and you still came here?" Astrid asked.
"We didn't get caught." Orion said.
"Obviously." Astrid muttered.
Orion sighed, "If D and I ran in the Iacon 5000 and if we beat just one bot, it'll show everyone that miners can be so much more."
"I like the idea and the enthusiasm, but it takes months to prepare for the Iacon 5000. And both of you could get seriously hurt or you could die. So, no. I'm not convincing my uncle to let you go run in the race." Astrid says, "Oh, by the way, my uncle's room is right below mine so you probably woke him up when you were climbing the walls of the tower."
"Great." D-16 muttered, "Now we're going to die by Sentinel. And he already hates us for hanging out with Astrid."
"I can get you two out of here before he comes with the guards." Astrid offered.
"We got this." Orion answered. He and D-16 looked below the balcony of the room and it was a long way down. If they jumped, they probably would both die.
Astrid crossed her arms over her chest and Orion turned back around, "So...how do we get out of here without dying?"
