I watch with a smile as she unwraps the jolly rancher with a toothy grin then pops the flavorful candy onto her pink tongue. She's always been very cheerful, for as long as I have known her, she's just been the light shining in the darkness with every intention to save every last sad person's mind from darkness.
She also loves talking about how much she wants to get nailed down and talked through it. she isn't as innocent as people may think but she's shown me that although someone can be gentle and as sweet as the sticky candy swirling around on Val's tongue— they can also be waiting to be treated like an old sock in the most shocking and filthy way.
Either way, I don't judge her as I have no right to. I mean, I have yet to do anything besides kiss Johnny Anderson in the math hallway in the fifth grade. So, I am no expert.
"Did you find the reds for me or are they—" As I kept whispering to Val, his dark and stern voice interrupts me from just inches in front of my desk.
My eyes snap up and trail up his cut frame, his eyes already interlocked with my gaze before I could process who it was.
"Do I have your attention ladies?" His hands are held behind his back with his lips slyly curling into a teasing grin, waiting for our response patiently and innocently like he didn't just sneak up on us to only humiliate us in font of the class.
I bite the inside of my cheek to help choke back the scream of terror he caused, who the fuck sneaks up on two teenage girls as a grown man?
'Yes sir, I'm sorry." I stutter, my throat drying up the longer he stares in slight amusement and curiosity. "We were just looking for our pens, haven't found them yet right?"
I turn to Valarie who has yet to crack her jaw back into place and not look as clueless as a mice walking into a caged trap.
"Mhm, yep. I really wanted to use my smooth purple pen she got for me last weekend, sorry for the interruption sir." She eventually smiles, blinking back up at him with that same innocent look in her eyes.
He bounces his eyes between the two of us, thinking quietly for a couple seconds before nodding slightly then tapping his finger softly on the edge of my desk before walking away.
"Before we start our last book for the year, we have a book that was recommended by one of the students who had gotten a score over 87 on the last test. Does anyone know who H.D Carlton is?"
Oh. I could feel it.
Even though his head is turned away and the room stays quiet with every single student looking up at him, I could feel the pressure of being chosen and the dooming reality knowing Mr. Tomlinson will need a full report of this book on his desk by tomorrow evening.
I am so fucked. "No? Hmm, I've heard she is a very popular author online due to the boldness and vulgar events in her books."
Please, someone fucking answer him!! I beg quietly, knowing once he turns around, he will call me out and expose my dirty desires for the most twisted and heated books I can find. "Oh, yeah." A voice speaks up from the back of the class, at the entrance was Mr. Malik.
"Carlton is a female author mostly known for her book duet called Haunting Adeline. The book is based on an author living in her grandmother's haunted house as a crazed stalker follows and taunts her with her own fears until she falls for him. The book itself is vulgar and graphic, containing scenes with things as dark as murder, torture, and sexual torment. And that's just the first book," He smiles happily, his hands resting in his pockets as he acts like he didn't just describe a book made for the criminally insane and obviously that includes me.
