Chapter Ten

The world is blurring.

“Mykala?”

My eyes open.

“Mykala?”

I look around. There’s nobody there.

“Who’s there?” I ask.

“Help me, Mykala. It’s dark, and I’m scared.”

“Ellye? Is that you?”

“Yes. Save me…”

I sit up abruptly.

“Mykala? What’s wrong?” Nate asks, sitting next to me.

“Ellye…” I whisper, standing up. Morgan comes into the metal room, eyes wide.

“We need to find her.” I state, looking down at the floor.

“I know, Mykala. But Nate must stay here. He does not know what is out there.” Morgan replies, smiling lightly. I nod, walking out of the room, leaving Nate with Morgan. I storm through the forest, anger building up bit by bit. Who took Ellye? Last I heard from her, she was in the school…did someone from here take her? Does Onyx know…? I suddenly bump into someone.

“Sorry.” I say, walking past the person. They grab my arm. Turning around, I smile.

“Onyx.” I say, as he lets go of my arm.

“Who came back with you?” Onyx asks, letting go of my arm. We stand in silence for two minutes, before I answer.

“My Nate.”

“Oh…” Onyx looks down at the ground.

“But we do have a problem.” I tell him, lifting his head back up with my other hand.

“What?”

“Ellye’s missing.” Onyx’s mouth drops.

“I saw her two hours ago.” My eyes widen. She was only taken less than two hours ago? Onyx lets go of my arm, and I start running. Where is she?

“Mykala!” Onyx calls from behind me. Turning around, I see that Onyx is standing at least 2 metres away.

“Close your eyes for a second. I just want you to try something.” I nod, closing my eyes. Suddenly, a voice whispers around my ears.

“Myki…ten steps forward then five steps to the right.” I nod unconsciously, before taking ten steps forward.

“Now five to the right.” I step to the right, not even thinking about it.

“Almost there…ten more steps forward then open your eyes.” The voice tells me. I take ten steps forward, my feet hitting something. I open my eyes, and before me, is a doorway. Looking back, Onyx is standing behind me. He nods. I turn back around, opening the door. A cold breeze comes up, making me blink. Hesitating, I walk inside. The air is colder in here. I refrain from calling out to Ellye. Stepping forward, I am instantly freezing cold. Looking back at Onyx, he throws me his jacket.

“Thanks!” I call, putting it on. He nods, before the door suddenly closes. My eyes widen, but then I realise; this is a solo job. Turning the collar up, I begin walking. Looking up, I see ice hanging from the roof, pointing down to a sharp point, which could kill if it hits my heart. Shaking my head, I start walking, skylights lighting the way. As I continue walking, I come to a T intersection.

“What way?” I whisper, closing my eyes.

“The right.” The soft voice says in my ear. I re-open my eyes, before turning right. I continue along the skylight lit corridor, my breath proving how cold it is. My hands start shaking from the cold, so I put them inside the warming pockets. I reach a door, which is wide open. I carefully step inside, making sure that I don’t trip a trap or something like that. But, suddenly, I am swept off my feet, and into a net. Growling instinctively, someone takes a step towards me. They are covered by darkness, but I can feel their eyes on me.
