Mrs. Smith's expression mirrored Rachel's concern.
"I've tried contacting her, but her phone's unreachable. It's like she vanished."
The chairman re-entered the room, his face impassive.
"Any news on Elizabeth's whereabouts?" Rachel asked.
The chairman shook his head.
"Nothing yet. But I've mobilized our resources to find her."
Mrs. Smith's skepticism was evident.
"Your resources? Or Raymond's?"
The chairman's gaze narrowed.
"Does it matter? The goal is to find Elizabeth."
Rachel stood up, determination etched on her face.
"I'll find her. I have to."
Mrs. Smith nodded.
"We'll work together. For Elizabeth's sake, and our family's."
Unbeknownst to them, Elizabeth was trapped in a dimly lit room, her wrists bound.
A figure loomed in the shadows, voice distorted.
"You'll never leave this place, Elizabeth."
Elizabeth's resolve hardened.
"I will. And I'll expose the truth."
The figure stepped forward, its features obscured.
"We'll see about that."
Hours passed in a blur. I was dragged from that dingy room, thrown into a black vehicle, and taken to a location shrouded in darkness. A cold, clinical smell enveloped me as I was washed and sanitized, my mouth sealed and wrists bound. The world spun, and I succumbed to darkness once more.
When I came to, I found myself in a sterile room, strapped to a bed. Faceless figures surrounded me, their eyes hidden behind masks. Panic set in as one of them approached, syringe in hand. Memories flooded my mind – my father's ICU, the mysterious faces, the endless injections. The disease, contagious and deadly, spread through tainted needles.
I screamed, but my gagged mouth muffled the sound. Tears streamed down my face, my eyes burning red. My soul felt crushed, suffocating under the weight of helplessness. A part of me died in that moment.
The figure loomed closer, syringe poised. I struggled against my restraints, desperate to break free. But they held firm, cutting into my skin like cold, unforgiving steel.
Twelve years of suppressed memories flooded my mind. The night before my birthday, my father's accident had shattered our world. Everyone blamed me, saying my demand for the latest toy had driven him to rush, leading to the fatal crash. I believed it then, consumed by guilt.
But at the hospital, with my mother by my side, I noticed familiar faces from my father's company lingering around his ICU. My mother reassured me they were ensuring his safety. Yet, one face etched itself in my memory – a man whose facemask slipped, revealing his identity.
Our eyes met, and I sensed a spark of recognition. He was the last nurse to attend to my father before my aunt arrived that fateful night. The same man, with the same skilled hands, stood before me now.
