Protect Me From My Demons
It doesn't happen so often
That I wake in the middle of the night
With a smile on my face
And happy tears in my eyes
It doesn't happen so often
That I look into the mirror
And I smile a grander smile
That I have in the past five years
It's all because of you
You've taken away my demise
You've taken away the wish to hurt
And in your eyes, are words of the wise
You tell me the pain will soon fade away
And who knew you could've been right?
You've taken away the refusal of thought
The ones that the tears were brought
The way of thinking that caused so much pain
I now writhe in happiness
I dropped every fear I've thought in vain
I used to be scared
To remember that night
But now, I know,
He's gone
And I'm not under his knife
You're here for my comfort
You're here to keep me safe
So what was I so afraid of?
You don't want to hurt me
You're my happy place
But what happens when I dream
And that dream turns to fear
When that fear creates a new nightmare
Where will you be?
Will you be laying next to me?
