Sun sets and tree frogs

Chirping outside of the open window, Noelle's had a long day, and she's getting a headache from watching the vertical bar blinking, Her report was sheer babble in the hour she had spent in front of her laptop, reviews of the food, the room service for two she had snapshotted for her instagram, the wine she drank to power through a mere five hundred words she had written, her suitcase half packed, she just felt so numb. Not ready to return to the real world just yet.

She had tried far too many glasses of pinot, getting sentimental over a dreamland she'll never live in, she glanced out of the window, the resort is beautiful as the horizon hides itself and wished she could stay and forget her life, leave it all behind but her bank balance screams hungry and homelessness if she didn't return back to work.

Grabbing her notebook sitting beside her, a small piece of paper flutters to the floor and as she picks it up to investigate, hoping it would contain the words she had been trying so desperately to get out on her laptop. Her eyes squint slightly, either from the copious amounts of wine, or the fact that the characters were a blur. Pulling open google translate, she had to refocus, not understanding what it was she was seeing.

"제발, 용서해주세요"
"Please forgive me"

Noelle sits stationary, suddenly overcome with frustration and bursts out a sob, and shuts her laptop, soon she is going back to being a liar and a deceptive person, still with no real boyfriend, not that JK was a real candidate she could pursue for her childish game to fool her friends, but she didn't regret her time with him, he was sweet and nice even taught her some Korean but he was just a one night fling, no use crying over it now.

Noelle gets up and takes her wine glass, settling it on the bedside table, she sits on the soft mattress and contemplates how she's going to face her friends when she gets back to New York. She scrolls her Instagram. Lies. All lies. There's an update from her friends, selfies with food at their usual brunch place, wishing their friend 'Ellie' and her man a good time abroad.

There's guilt, but also determination in her wine filled blood that she must continue to play it out for a little while longer, she just needs a boyfriend, how hard could it really be?. Trouble is she's imprinting an image of the perfect man to her friends.

Flopping back she almost feels like being in her hotel room is now her exile rather than the paradise she makes it look online. There are worse places to be, granted but feeling especially vulnerable now in an empty bed. She turns on the TV to feel less marooned, of course it's not really working, romantic movie after romantic movie.. until she stumbles upon an old favourite.

After reciting it word for word and with a sigh of surrender to sleep, she fashions herself a vertical body pillow to cuddle as the credits come to an end, takes a deep inhale, smelling the beautiful musk of a Korean hunk that once laid there, reminding her she wasn't lonely a few hours ago.
