How do heats occur? That's a simple question with a simple answer. Heats happen when an Omega first presents, normally around puberty. Typically, this occurs once a month, lasting 5-7 days.

This cycle can be tracked and Omegas typically know when their heat will come. If it started the first week of every month, it will continue that way until they reach their mid-40s.

However, heats can tend to break their routine cycle. They can come early or late depending on bodily situations.

What can make a heat start earlier than normal? Some factors can be hormonal changes, environmental changes, and various other things. However, the main one is when an Omega finds an Alpha they instinctively desire to mate with, pushing their body to move the heating process sooner than normal.

Obviously, heats aren't required for an Alpha and Omega to bear a child, but it increases the likelihood. Especially when heats make Omegas much more wanting to... Do the act, if you will.

To prevent Omegas and Alphas from engaging in unwanted sexual encounters, Omegas are required to leave campus a few days before their heats start, as they are required to let the school administration know their heat schedule.

But, with Izuku starting his heat so suddenly, he wouldn't be able to just leave the campus. With how many Alphas there were at the college, even if they tried to escort him out with security, his scent alone would start a riot and chaos would ensue.

He would be able to get out of going to classes as a result of the early heat, but he didn't like having to be stuck in his dorm room. At least it was just for a week. Still, not exactly what he had in mind.

He made sure to let Uraraka and Iida know what was going on so they wouldn't worry about him not showing up during lunch, but of course, they asked questions.

Well, mostly Ochaco asked.

But, Izuku being the damn nerd that he was, he was honest with her when he explained how his heat started early. He truly didn't understand why. He didn't connect the dots that when he tried to find the answer, he kept thinking back to Katsuki sweating and breathing heavily on top of him at the end of their training, as thinking about it made him turn red and hide under his bed sheets.

Speaking of Katsuki, he couldn't know about this at all.

Obviously, Izuku going into heats was a topic that wasn't completely unavoidable as Izuku had to leave for a week every month, meaning he and Katsuki wouldn't be able to study together during that time, so Izuku gave Katsuki his schedule, which the Alpha was professional about as it was only logical.

But his heat came way, way too early. Katsuki would probably be suspicious of it, especially after how Izuku left their sparring session the other day. He'd probably have a lot of questions considering a heat doesn't start early just out of the blue.

Izuku began to worry that if Katsuki were you figure it out, it would definitely be the end of their friendship since the only possible answer Katsuki could probably come up with is that he was the reason Izuku got his heat early. (It definitely was the reason but Izuku is in deep denial.)

"You started your heat early because of me? This is bad, Izuku. Especially since I don't like you that way. I can only mate with the most pristine, Prime Omegas. I never had any interest in you. If you're going to go into heat every time I come into close contact with you, then it would probably be best we don't see each other anymore..."
