The pollution filled sky of the city consisted of a few stars, that night. It was a tough night on its own , dark , full of clouds , forecasting on TVs and phones of a possible rainy day. Possible thunder.
They could careless about that, sharing a quarter of a braincell. They had both taken free snacks amd drinks from the tables and stacked them on the rooftop .
Amber tried to squint her eyes to see even the little invisible stars in the sky while Faline ate a pink strawberry mochi.
She occasionally glanced at him, looking this transition and now short hair, and feeling a bit of a confident demeanor in contrast to his past self. She just hoped their relationship remained the same.
Images of that girl in the red lipstick flashed through her mind. Feeling a bit of a bitter taste in her throat
She lowered her eyes from the sky and turned her head to Faline . "Who was that girl you were talking to?"
Faline turned to head , mouthful of mochi ,surprised at the sudden question. "Hmmp?"
"Ugh..the girl..in the red dress ,who was standing beside Autumn and you . Who was that? Just asking." She pushed him a little to answer
"Oh." He gulped "Just a friend, we met online through discord. Her name is Adrianna. "
"And she was invited with you?" Amber asked, playing with her fingers, with a slight change in tone.
"To a prom party..." She muttered .
He raised his eyebrow "why do you ask?" he smirked a bit "Mm.. jealous or something?"
"Shut up" she rolled her eyes. She just stopped asking and let that slide through. She looked at her phone and sighed
Wild crickets were singing in the night. The buzzing city was almost silent from up there..
They both shared from the same packet of snacks, and drinking orange juice, which was violently acidic and artificial.
"I like your hair" Amber bluntly said, to add some conversation.
"Aww thanks." Faline said, while trying to putting food through the hole in his mask.
Amber was kinda intrigued by his sudden aesthetic change? She liked his boyish look. Maybe that will give her an excuse to come out the closet .
Ps.internal homophobia. in denial.
They noticed at the staircase door to the rooftop was still open. The number of people downstairs at the party have decreased by now.
They thought if they closed the door they'll get locked out from the other side, which would make a hell of a night to be honest.
They saw people leaving through the exit door, some tipsy, some still sober, some trying to hide snacks in their clothes and pockets, groups after groups.
Faline took out his phone and checked the time.
"10:15..pm" he muttered.
"Damn how long have we been here?" Amber retorted.
"Long enough..I don't know" He replied, not sure of the answer himself.
Despite that, they still sat there at the edge of the rooftop , the empty food packets shoved their pockets.
"It has been really nice meeting after so long, right?" Amber asked.
Faline nodded. "Yea..."
Though that was a long, long time ago when they were just kid online, they sat grown up now. A lot. A lot had changed.
