That evening, Leifor Branch Office of the Intelligence Bureau’s Technology Division

With the workday finally over, Naguano was getting ready to go home

???: Naguano! This just came in the mail!

Just like that, something wrapped in paper packaging was dropped right in front of him. The sender seems to be a native Leiforian. The intelligence bureau employs natives and sends them to Mu disguised as civilians to gather all sorts of information on their enemies. It seems that one of these contacts has gotten their hands on something

Frankly, Naguano has just about had enough with the thinking that all these things ought to be processed with the technology division for analysis. The reason is that most of the stuff that ends up on his desk is useless information. But there was no blaming their contacts, for they were only able to gather information that civilians could get their hands on

I think it’s best to leave this off for tomorrow, but…

Attached to the package was a memo, likely to have been written by the sender, that said “information pertaining to Soviet Union” in the Gra Valkan script. As soon as the words clicked in, a strong force beckoned him to open up the package, putting his heart in a state of conflict

Colleague: Aren’t you going home?

His colleague came to check on him and laid his eyes on the paper packaging

Colleague: Hm? ‘Information pertaining to Soviet Union’? Ohh, those guys?

Naguano and the rest of the department paid attention to the Soviet anti-air capabilities as described in the Cartalpas after-battle report. The ship that participated in the battle had a relatively large hull with a length of 150m and was painted in an unusually conspicuous white color, but it only had very small armaments—peashooters in comparison to Mu and Gra Valkan guns—and had extremely thin paper armor. But the other two ships had length of 186m and 230m and was painted in gray color, and they don't know whereabouts of those two ships, but those three ships had top speed of measly 25 knots, which was something that even a Hercules-class battleship could outdo. All in all, it was a ship that just didn’t seem to fit on a battlefield, except the other two ships

Naguano: Their weapons are exceptionally accurate so you’d expect them to have a high degree of technological sophistication but…

Something clawed on Naguano, getting him to feel like retracting his statements. His colleague tilted his head off to one side and added.

Colleague: But I feel like it won’t be out of place if they’re actually a bit stronger than they let on. If not, then our data regarding their accuracy and speed and such would be anomalous. It just doesn’t seem right if they specialized in accuracy yet have no concept of armor plating whatsoever

One of the Soviet ship was sunk by a gun volley so its armor being weak was certain, which put to question their unusually exceptional accuracy and iffy speed. When guns are made to be more accurate, armoring is made thicker, or speed is increased to make the chances of surviving likelier. It’s simply unthinkable for either development to have not taken place

But that’s simply the reality of being in a paradigm before the existence of long-range guided munitions that are guaranteed to kill

Naguano: Maybe it’s the case where since they couldn’t make powerful engines, they couldn’t increase the armor on their ships?

Colleague: Or maybe it’s a different problem altogether… Well, I think this is more than enough for today. A job that can be done tomorrow should be done tomorrow, yeah? I’m going home. See you
