Nevaeh

I had not said a word to Teresa since the argument we had. For the next few weeks, we were in and out of the house, avoiding each other at all costs. Well, I was at least. I could not face her again. Not yet. I won't let her take my joy away.

It was time for the annual ski trip that the girls and guys would go on. I went on a few but didn't in the past couple of years due to the tension between me and Damon before.

The ride to Vermont wasn't long. We all went together and were going to meet Natalie there. I glanced over to my right and saw Nick being lovey-dovey with Veronica. Yes, he brought her.

My eyes found their way to Emma and I could see something with a little bit of hurt in her eyes. She was glancing over every so often to the couple. We were at the front doors of the resort. I did a quick scan of the space and saw the parts of mansard roofs covered in white now and huge beige buildings stretched across the white now. I could see the trails of our steps from walking.

We went inside and the hotel lobby was bathed in a warm, inviting light that seemed to be emanating from a pastel sun. We were all checking in. As Damon was giving his information to the front desk, a deep, honeyed voice spoke in my ear, "Mon amour, how was the break?"

I turned to see Jesse, with his grown out dark curly hair, smiling brightly.

"Great, no thanks to you."

"Ah, ou konnen m te ale we fami'm," he defeated himself. I knew he had to see his family but at the time, I rather stayed with him than with Damon which was funny considering how we were now. "And besides, you should be thanking me with, you know," he said, as his pointed finger went back between me and Damon.
