I'M ALIVE

Before I die

I'd like to do something nice

Take my hand and I'll take you for a ride

You hit me yesterday

Because I made you cry

So before we die, I'd like to do something nice

Never in my entire existence have I felt such euphoria as in these past few weeks. The saying about power holds true -bit is intoxicating and can easily dominate us.

"Carry my rucksack, would you?" I whisper to Narcissa right after we finish breakfast. I have to hold back from laughing aloud at her furious expression.

She bends down, grumbling while trying to balance two rucksacks and two enormous stacks of books. She stumbles down the corridor, probably barely able to see the path ahead.

I follow closely behind her, heading towards the dungeons. The cold, damp air signals our approach to the great stone hall where our Potions class will take place.

I see Alice a few meters away, eyeing me and Narcissa with suspicion. ─ So I wave at her, grinning from ear to ear.

In the past weeks, Narcissa has become my personal house-elf. She has dressed me, combed and braided my hair, carried my bag, fed my owl, and even done my homework. I checked her work three times, just to be sure it was correct.

With Narcissa, you can never be too certain. You'll never know what is she planing in her devilishly mind.

Her torment has been my greatest joy, and I dread its eventual end.

"You'll pay for this," she growled on Wednesday while brushing my hair more roughly than necessary.

She wouldn't let this slide, I knew that much. And I was already bracing myself for the appearance of some venomous scorpion or snake in my bed once the Christmas holidays were over.

I returned to classes a week later than expected. Madame Pomfrey was quite concerned. Mum visited me twice, complaining to Dumbledore and demanding the name of the culprit.

Dad took it more calmly, but I could see in his eyes, which always revealed everything, his true concern. I had never fallen from a broom before, and I had been flying before I could even walk.

I only realised the gravity of the situation when I had trouble walking. I needed a crutch and was all bandaged up.

Madame Pomfrey explained that I had fractured five ribs, all bones in the hand and multiple fractures in the arm. ─ That's why I needed to behave to avoid any further issues.

My fellow Slytherins signed their names on my bandages, and I'm sure one of the Prewett twins drew a dick on the strip at the back of my head. ─ If it wasn't them, I'd wager it was Alice.

Today we would have Potions, which, as always, is a class shared with Gryffindor.

The class was preparing a new potion that day, a Shrinking Solution. I waited for Narcissa to finally enter the room before I started to bother her.
