This part takes the span of 10 minutes and splits it between perspectives of M and E while M is out trying to look for boats.

The water was cold, like ice rubbing against Madeleine's entire body. It stung his arms and legs until they were red with a crawling chill, and made his most regularly strong build feel weak. No- tense. He opened his eyes, expecting the salt water to sting and cloud his vision, although it truly didn't. His own blonde hair, so long it wrapped around his neck even when tied up, fell into strands to float peacefully for the entire moment leading to him swimming upwards to the surface.

Breaking the surface of the water, wind stung Madeleine's face, blasting against his broad shoulders with great power as he struggled to keep his own freezing limbs moving.

"Merde! Oh merde!" He yelled out, although unable to hear himself with his voice being carried away with the storm. Pushing against the wall behind him, he began to swim- with great struggle- farther into the flooded street.

The city looked very different from this new perspective. Although many buildings stuck out over the top of the water, they all looked a lot smaller than they had before. Like they had been chopped down as trees are to now be very short, only stumps of their past selves. Most of the windows seemed perfectly intact, although there was the occasional broken one which was either too high for Madeleine to reach, or led directly into a half-flooded room. He realized just how lucky they were to have a room so close to water level without being submerged.

Clouds moved heavily across the sky, swirling and changing and continuing their horrendous downpour of freshwater which turned undrinkable as soon as it touched the salty sea across the city.
