Chapter Twenty Two

Another message came through from him with the address. I looked back up at Tristen, "You want me to call Benny? Why?"

He gave me a serious look, "Because he needs to explain himself or give you some more details. Plus, if they got to Natalia, they could've gotten to him too and could be using his phone to lure you into a trap. Call him to make sure that it's actually him."

"Okay, okay", I said as I dialed his number. The first call just rang straight through. Tristen motioned me to call a second time and once I did, it went straight to voicemail.

"See, that's suspicious", Tristen said.

I softly sighed, "That doesn't prove anything. He could be on his way to that location right now. Or making a getaway and messaged me the address before something happened to him. Look, I know it's scary going into the unknown. But if they somehow did get to him and he used his last moments to send me this, I have to check it out. Please, Tristen."

He gripped his forehead and sighed, "I still feel uneasy about the situation, but there's a possibility that what you said is right. So I'll drive to whatever location he sent, but only if you agree to leave and be done with this if you can't find anything. I'm serious."

I nodded, "Okay."

I couldn't read his emotions clearly. I didn't know what he was feeling other than uneasiness, but that couldn't be helped. There was a possibility that Eylias or whoever worked for him had gotten to Benny, but it was probably after he had already sent his message to me. Still, I had no idea which one of us, between Tristen and I, was correct about the situation. Regardless, we were doing this together.

We finished our food and got in the car, and Tristen had typed the address into his phone instead of using the car's GPS. His eyes widened as he showed me his phone, "Three hours away!? That's too far, love. You sure it's the right address?"

"It's the right address. It's a trip but I know it'll be worth it", I said to encourage him. I also just really didn't want him to change his mind. We were already so close.

He sighed, "Well I'm not gonna go back on my word. I'll take us there, but we seriously better find something. Actually, I'd rather we not so we can just go back home. While we were eating, I got our tickets. We need to leave around 3 am if we want to catch our flight, okay?"

"Yeah, sure. I'm going wherever you go", I said.

"Alright, well rest up because I know you didn't get much sleep last night. You usually mumble in your sleep so I know when you're not really sleeping", he joked.

"Ugh, so embarrassing", I said as I covered my face.

He chuckled, "Hey, I love it."

He filled up the tank, grabbed a few snacks for us, and we hit the road. I kept trying to stay up and talk to him, but he kept insisting that I go to sleep. I think he was just secretly hoping I'd fall asleep so he could turn around and drive us to the airport. I knew he wouldn't, but it was still a funny thought. I eventually took his advice though and allowed myself to rest for a short while...

I felt my body jolt forward as I almost slammed my face onto the dashboard but was stopped by Tristen's arm that he held out. I glared over at him, "Geez, dude!"

He looked at me, "Sorry, sorry. The dude in front keeps brake-checking me and driving too slow. And then the guy behind me isn't any better, he's riding behind me too close. What's wrong with these people, man?"

I looked around and saw that we were in a deserted area, "Are we almost there yet?"

He showed me his phone, "It says we're about five minutes out. It's just this car that's slowing us down. And it's a two-way, so I can't go around him either. I can't see when the other cars are coming."
