A/n: I'm sorry it took a while but I was slammed with homework, learning for exams and we went on a trip

"Alicent has given birth. A boy." Rhaenyra burst into his room before the sun even rose.
"What?" he asked still sleeping.

She walked over to his bed and sat down.
"My father has his heir."
Edric sat up suddenly very awake.

"You are his heir."
"Not anymore. Now he has his son, the heir he so desperately wanted, the son he..."

...killed Aemma for.

"Rhaenyra." he took her hands.
"You are the heir. The king will not change his mind."
Edric could see the tears in her eyes.
"How do you know." A tear rolled down her cheek.
"I just do," he said wiping the tear away.

"Come," he said as he stood up and held his hand out for her.
She put her hands in his and stood.
He pulled her close, kissed her head and walked them out to the balcony.

They said nothing for a while.

"Edric?" Rhaenyra asked looking at Alyssa's tears.
"Yes?"
"Have you thought...Has Jeyne..."
Edric took her hand in his.

"Bethrothals?" she asked nervously.
"No. you?"
"Not yet."

They looked straight ahead again.
They sat on the balcony in the Maiden tower with their feet dangling.

"I want to marry..." he began.
"...You."

Rhaenyra smiled shyly before a huge grin formed on her face.
She hugged his side and kissed his cheek.
He blushed.

"You know, before I thought you wanted to be with...Alicent."
"Alicent?"
"Yes."

"I thought that the three of us would be together."
Rhaenyra looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"What? no, not like that."
She laughed.

"I thought so too, but like that," she said finally.
Edric turned his whole body around to face her.

"We still haven't talked about it."
"There is nothing to talk about."
"Rhaenyra. You will go home in a week. You will have to face them and I won't be there."

she said nothing.

"I will ask Jeyne to write to the King."
Rhaenyra smiled brightly once more.

"Edric?"
"Rhaenyra?" he smiled.
"I-"
he understood.
"I love you," he said.
"I love you."

"My father has called me back to Kings Landing," she told him as she laid her head on his chest.
"But..."
"I know, I still have a week left but with the birth of Prince... Aegon, I am to return today."
They looked at each other in sorrow only being lit by the pale moonlight.

    two    years     later

"Edric! My boy, you have come." The King was already drunk.
"We were honoured by your Invite your grace." An eight and ten-year-old Edric answered.
Well, lied.

Jeyne Arryn's hatred for the King only worsened over the years.
He had disrespected Queen Aemma and the vale by marrying the Hightower girl the same year his previous wife had died.
And then as Jeyne was ready to mend the relationship by proposing a marriage between the heir of the Iron Throne and her own heir, The King had denied her.

"Jeyne couldn't join?"
"No, your grace. There is a land dispute that she has to oversee. She so wished to come and join the hunt."
"A shame. Oh! Alicent, come."

Alicent, heavily pregnant, walked over to the King and Edric.
She smiled brightly and Edric could tell it was a true one.

"I must leave you, my boy. The Queen will keep you company." And off he went.
