September 3
The second he woke up, Sasuke felt like absolute crap. Somehow throughout the night he ended up with his injured leg on the coffee table and the other perched on the couch. His head was leaning against the armrest of the couch and the blanket he initially wore was stuck around his waist. You on the other hand seemed to maintain a better position.
You remained in practically the same curled up position you were in when you fell asleep. The blanket covered you from the tip of your toe and was tucked under your chin.
A pang of pain shot through Sasuke's chest as he recalled the previous night's conversation. Everything that he had expected you to feel towards him - everything he prepared himself for was unnecessary.
The animosity, the hatred - none of it was there.
And it felt wrong to him.
The Uchiha boy almost wished you hated him. It would make this all so much easier for him.
He gulped and mentally chastised himself. This was no longer about him. It was about you. It was about saving you from what was to come. He had to do it.
He owed you that much.
You stirred ever so slightly in your sleep and Sasuke held his breath. His rough shuffling must have woken you.
Every muscle in his body stiffened and he tried to conceal his breathing. It was early in the morning - much too early for you to be awake. Much too early for you to see him like this.
You were a kind person. The last thing he needed was to add to your concern. Goodness knows there was already enough trouble in your life. He didn't need to make things worse.
Thankfully, his concern was unwarranted as you merely shifted to a more comfortable position before your previous stillness returned.
People would be coming over soon - most likely to offer condolences to Naruto's grieving parents. How many people had flocked over here after finding out about Naruto's tragic fate? No doubt many.
And many more would be on their way today. It certainly didn't help that his first doctor's appointment was today. You had so graciously offered to give him a ride.
Sleep was something he needed. But at the risk of sounding stubborn, he didn't want to. The sleep that had crashed into him like a train a mere few hours ago was fading away.
From his propped up position, he could see his crutches laying against the coffee table. A small walk wouldn't do him much harm. Sasuke nearly flinched as he heard a soft snore fall from your lips. As odd as it was, the boy could almost swear he had heard it before. But it didn't make sense. Deja vu . . . however the pair of you never had a sleepover together.
No.
With his thumb nail between his teeth, the boy nearly laughed. You must have been snoring earlier. That's why the noise was familiar.
That had to be it.

"I've always liked these books!" You gestured towards your Lord of the Rings set. The limited edition covers practically sparkled in the light of the room.
Sasuke smirked at your choice in novels. "Funny 'cause Naruto hated those books. I liked them."
You shook your head with a sigh. "He liked the movies but I could never convince him to touch these beauties. Seemed like had a vendetta against them." You ran your hand along the covers. "I'm sure one day he would have loved them."
