Aenigmatite is a mineral related to Aegirine, a titanium and iron inosilicate.
It was first described from specimens found in 1865 in Greenland, its name coming from the Greek word for "riddle", named that because of its previously unknown chemical formula.
It is found in other places, such as Russia, Australia, Italy, the USA and in meteorites possibly originating from Mars, indicating that it may be present on that planet.
It is a black to dark brown color, its luster vitreous to greasy, and the Mohs scale hardness of 5.5.
