"Ryan!"

Ryan came running back into Joyce's hospital room to where Lexie was shocking Joyce's heart to wake her up, "Clear!" The pads shocked the women, "This might be it." Ryan ignored the siblings' comments.

"Charge to 360! Clear!"

Joyce then started to groan as Tobias sighed, "Oh, for the love of god." He groaned as Alex looked at him, "Hey." The man immediately shut up, "You know how many people are in this hospital right now waiting, hoping that their loved ones might actually live?" Alex questions the siblings, "They're a bunch of vultures."

"But we're not." Tobias shook his head, "Aunt Joyce was given one month to live three years ago. And we were crushed and we held her hand at her bedside for weeks, and we said our tearful goodbyes. And the —" Lexie took off the rubber gloves from her hand, "She stabilised."

The sister then looked at the surgeons, "She's in and out of the hospital for months. Each time we jump on a plane, sit by her bed, say our goodbyes all over again." The women claimed, "And each time, she winds up getting better."

"We want to be here when she goes. We really do." Tobias admitted adding on, "But—it's a lot of travelling around the country." Tobias answered and Ryan had enough, "She's your family. It shouldn't matter how many times you have to get on a plane because it's your loved one." He stated to the siblings, "My sister almost died and I wasn't here, I was in med school learning how to become a surgeon just like her. Because we save lives." He stated to them, "Some people right now outside of his hospital room, have their loved ones suffering and hoping that they'd get better and you're all here complaining."

Ryan shook his head, "It's not right." He added looking at the three siblings, "She's ready. We're all ready. It's time." Ryan shook his head at the women's comment, "And I've got a board meeting tomorrow." Luke once again respected, "A big one."

Ryan set down his tray onto the table he was going to sitting at with his sister when his pager went off seeing that it was Joyce before the three surgeons all ran towards the room, "Clear!" Tobias said in a mocking tone.

"You know what?" Dr Karev said when they came around the hospital bed, "Why don't you all wait outside!" The women looked back at the resident, "Will you let us know if she—"

Ryan put the rubber gloves on his hands, "Yeah, yeah. I'll let you know." The beeping continued, "Bastards." Alex mumbled as Ryan nods his head, "Push one of Epi."

"Charge to 360. Clear!"

Alex shocked Joyce, "Come on, Joyce, you old bag, don't give 'em the satisfaction." However, Joyce didn't move, "Charge again." The nurse nods her head, "Charged."

"Clear!"

The machine beeped as Ryan smiled looking at where Joyce opened her eyes, "Hey, I'm Dr Karev. You're a fighter, you know that? You worked hard today." Joyce looked around, "She needs some rest."

Alex then looked at Ryan who was writing down what his resident said, "Um—see the family. Make sure they don't come back in here." Ryan nods his head where Joyce stopped Dr Karev, "No. They're impatient. It's been a long time. But they always come."

Ryan looked down at Joyce, "They're my people. People keep you going." Ryan half smiled at that, "People are better than no people." Ryan nods his head looking down at the old lady.

Alex went out of the room to what Joyce's machine started to flatline as Lexie and Ryan looked at one another as Alex had to go and see his girlfriend, "Push another epi. Charge again." Ryan rubbed the paddles together, "Come on, Mrs Wallington."

"Clear!"

The machine continued to flatline as Ryan sighed pulling the paddles back, "I'm so sorry. She's not responding. We've done everything we can, so she's gone." Lexie clarified to the siblings, "Thank you." The sister played with her necklace, "You did a wonderful job."

The machine started to beep again as Ryan furrowed his eyebrows looking at the machine, "Uh, that shouldn't be happening." He got out his stethoscope, placing it against the women's chest, "This is never going to end." Tobias said, "No, she's gone. She's really gone. It's her pacemaker."

"It's still firing, make it seems like there's a heartbeat. But she's really gone." Ryan then looked to his sister, "Are you sure she's dead?" Ryan looked at Tobias, "We're only interns. We're not authorised to call time of death in a situation like this."

Lexie then went out of the room getting Mark Sloan who then came into the hospital room with Lexie trailing behind him, "This will shut the pacemaker down." Mark placed a device against the pacemaker that made the beating stop to what the machine flatlined, "Time of death, 22;40."

Lexie sighed, "There you go. She's officially dead. You can catch your plane." She said directing her comment to Tobias, "And get to your board meeting. You can leave."

The siblings looked at one another, where Tobias went towards his Aunt picking up her hand in his and holding it, "Actually, could we stay a little while longer?" Mark looked at the interns who nod their heads.

Ryan followed out after his half sister and Mark Sloan knowing the feeling of losing a loved one.
