When she left, no one pitied her. The class teacher didn't try to keep her. She was already notorious for fighting, and after she dropped out, there would probably be a farewell party in the class.

Gu Siyu turned over, facing away from the window, not wanting to hear the rain anymore. However, the rain kept getting heavier with no sign of stopping.

As she fell asleep, she began to dream.

When she was very young, Gu Siyu was taken to a child psychiatrist for counseling. The psychiatrist told her that dreams were not a reflection of the day's thoughts but rather a result of the brain constantly working. It would remember the most profound points of what it saw and heard daily, and these points would be pieced together in dreams, creating strange scenarios. Dreams had no specific meanings; behaviors in dreams were uncontrolled, capturing thoughts that the brain itself hadn't consciously noticed but had subconsciously glimpsed.

Even though she didn't fully understand the psychologist's words at such a young age, she remembered the concept as she grew older.

In the dream, the rain fell for a long time. Walls made of mud bricks stacked layer by layer rose to the sky. Gu Siyu walked forward in slippers, and the rain curtain poured so heavily that it almost covered her eyes.

Below the wall, there was a girl in a blue school uniform, reading a book page by page. After a while, she closed the book, pressed her fingers on it, and began to recite classical Chinese. The nameplate on her chest revealed three characters: Duan Xiqian.

Gu Siyu hurried her steps, trying to greet her, but the distance between her and the wall would never shorten. Gu Siyu knocked on the glass, and her fingers hurt. She continued knocking, startling the girl on the other side of the wall.

Under the rain curtain, the girl in a white dress sat on the ground, her body covered in colorful paint. She squatted, holding her hands high to shelter a small dog from the rain.

For some reason, Gu Siyu felt much more at ease. Every time she dreamed of Duan Xiqian, she would feel sad and her whole body would ache, indicating it was a nightmare. This time, she slowed down and continued to knock on the glass gently. Finally, she broke the glass. Her palms began to bleed, but she was so happy. She found a place and, like others, curled up in the corner, finally finding a peaceful nest. She chuckled quietly. The more she buried herself, the more she saw children on her left and right, just like her, all looking similar.

Happy yet bittersweet.

Tick, tock, tick, tock.

The rain kept falling.

Gu Siyu briefly woke up from the dream. Her phone, placed at the bedside, rang. Gu Siyu answered it, and Huo Junxian had sent her a message asking where she was. Gu Siyu replied with a voice message, "I'm sleeping at my place today. I'll come to your place tomorrow."

"I'm at the hospital now," Huo Junxian replied, her voice sounding hoarse.

Gu Siyu propped herself up with her arm, still feeling a bit groggy. She rubbed her face, asking, "What happened? Is something wrong?"

Huo Junxian said, "It's not me, it's Xiao Yu. Its arthritis relapsed, and I just brought it here for anti-inflammatory shots."

"Okay..." Gu Siyu exhaled. It was already turning, and she looked out of the window. It was pitch black outside, and the rain was getting heavier. She asked, "Are there still doctors available at this hour? Is it serious?"

Huo Junxian made a sound of affirmation.

Gu Siyu got up from the bed, changed her clothes, found a coat to put on, and felt much more awake. She went to the bathroom to wash her face, and with mouthwash in her mouth, she searched through her belongings for an umbrella.
