Right on time, Camilla and Mason filed in.

"I really hope I get to work on neuro today" Isabella was in the middle of speaking to us when the other two joined right in.

"I think pediatrics could be fun" Beau supplied.

"Really? I think that sounds awful" Camilla added, and I saw it coming from miles away.

"Well of course you would say that" Beau playfully rolled his eyes. "Well what are you interested in?"

"Easy. Trauma" She answered without hesitation.

"Orthopedics is definitely the best one" Mason chimed in, currently standing there shirtless and getting dressed.

"Ortho is for losers" Camilla scoffed. "So, fitting"

"What about you Mallory? What specialty do you want to work on?" Beau asked, making the four of them turn to look at me. it momentarily reminded me of Monday at the lunch table, but I shook it off.

"Uhm" I thought. "Cardio could be interesting, but I also like working with kids"

"You look like you belong on peds" Mason shrugged.

I don't know if that's an insult or not, but luckily I didn't have the chance to respond, because Dr. Brooks came in right at that time. Unlike us, he looked wide awake for the early arrival time, and was wearing a smile on his face. The five of us in his group perked up and eagerly awaited as he would be giving us our specialty assignments for the day.

"Good morning guys" He greeted. "Dr. Parker you're on trauma, Dr. Lin neuro, Dr. Lopez you're at ortho, Dr. Bennett and Dr. Monroe are on pediatrics"

Oh! Interesting.

Isabella's eyes were lit up at getting the specialty that she wanted, meanwhile Camilla was trying to hide her distaste for orthopedics. I was excited to be on the peds floor! I love kids, and I babysat through medical school to have money for groceries and other necessities, so I think today will be a good one.

And maybe Mason and I can get off to a better start today since we're going to be stuck on the same floor.

We all headed off into our separate directions, Mason and I walking with Dr. Brooks since we were going towards the same direction for now.

"Our chief of pediatrics was out the last couple of days for a family emergency, but he is among the top rated surgeons in the country. I tell all the interns they are lucky to work with him. Even though I'm interested in general, I learned a lot working with him" Dr. Brooks made conversation, giving some insight on how my day is going to go. From this information, it seems promising. I am thrilled to work alongside one of the best surgeons. I enjoyed my time working with Dr. Machado, but deep down I have a feeling she actually didn't like me. it's probably just my overthinking again.

"Really? I heard he's a dick" Mason commented, which made my jaw drop slightly at the casual tone he had.

Dr. Brooks looked at him. "He's...rough around the edges"

Oh.

"But he's a great surgeon" He finished, taking a pause. "And stay away from the nurses on the third floor"

Mason furrowed his eyebrows, trying to catch up as Dr. Brooks rushed off around the corner. "How did you know that?!"

"Everybody knows!" He called back from the other end of the hallway.

I pressed the button to call for an elevator, now standing here waiting with Mason.

"I didn't see anything wrong with the nurses" Mason shrugged, standing there pondering over the conversation. "I quite enjoyed my time actually"
