she kneeled up.
"did you just pull us out of there with that waterpower stuff?" annabeth questioned the blonde.
"no. i don't know. maybe? i'm figuring this out as i go." percy huffed, and got up.
the statue in front of them was holding the shield, high above.
"how are we supposed to get that thing down?" percy pointed.
"i grab you and throw you up there, and you either hit your head and get a concussion, or you get the shield!" cherry offered.
the pair began another argument.
annabeth was the only person focused.
"these things are connected somehow. it's a machine, but how do you start the machine?" annabeth wondered.
percy snapped out of it.
"it was a gift with a hidden purpose. hephaestus offered it to hera, but as soon as she sat in it, she couldn't get up. all the gods tried, but the machine was too smart. it was too strong. it was too much. even for them. finally, they said if hephaestus let hera free, aphrodite would be his wife. the chair is the bargain. one of us goes in, the other gets the shield." percy explained to the two girls.
