Nico woke up to find he was smiling, for the first time in- how long was it now? Weeks? Months?- he actually smiled. A real smile, not a fake sad smile, or a grin, or a smirk. Just a beautiful, pure expression of joy and contentment.
He blinked in the early morning sun, yawned, and then smiled down at his very own little sun still sleeping peacefully next to him.

Gently he lifted Will's head from where it rested on his lap, and laid it carefully back down on the soft sand, careful not to wake him. Standing up he stretched, yawning quietly. As his eyes adjusted to the light of the rising sun he started walking down to the beach, treading softly so as not to disturb the peace.

When he got down to the shore he stopped, letting the small waves lap playfully around his toes as he gazed at the beautiful symphony of coloured light stretching across the horizon.

After a few moments he recognised a pair of footsteps approaching him from behind, and without turning around he smiled, knowing who it was.

"It's beautiful, isn't it." said Will softly, putting his arm around Nico's waist and gently pulling him in for a side-hug.

"Yeah," agreed Nico. "Your dad really pulled out all the stops today, huh."

"That's just my dad for you," laughed Will jokingly. "Always so supportive of his children's dates by the beach."

The two of them laughed gently and slowly their faces came closer together, they closed their eyes and leaned in for a sweet kiss- Nico's lips were parting when he felt his body being grabbed by something decidedly unalive;

without warning a shadow had leapt at them, breaking them apart and dragging Nico down through the sand with it. He didn't even have time to let out a startled cry, before he was gone.
Blinking in surprise, Will suddenly found himself alone on the beach.
