um hello???? holy shit this musical is so good???? like it's a lot but it's hella good??? 10/10 recommend.
these were my seats!! it's at the lunt-fontanne theater! we're not close but no view is bad in the show honestly. it's very easy to see each actor.
going in, we were a little nervous that josh groban wouldn't be doing tonight's show. of course actors get sick/have conflicts too but we came to see josh, so it would certainly be a disappointment if he ended up being understudied. (it's a running joke that josh groban was supposed to be my dad--my mom almost went to a camp he was at)
but, luckily, he was here!! annaleigh ashford who plays mrs. lovett was being subbed in by jeanna de waal, and while still slightly sad bc im sure it would have been amazing to have both leads, it was great!! jeanna was a great mrs. lovett and i loved her voice (she did the splits down stairs during the show)
i literally cried when josh jumped on stage (you can't even hear him bc the crowd is cheering so loud)
anyways, the show is SO good. while josh and jeanna were amazing vocally, the ensemble for sweeney todd really deserves all the applause. just in the opening, i had chills from the vocals. if you haven't listened to the cast album, definitely listen to "the ballad of sweeney todd" (especially when the main chorus starts).
as i said, josh and jeanna were so good! jeanna really captured mrs. lovetts wonkyness and quirk yet loving nature...as well as how in love with sweeney she is.
and ofc josh ate as sweeney. his voice was just chefs kiss and he did a great job at sequencing sweeneys shift into crazy/murderereveryone else did great too! vocally and acting wise it was a perfect show and i would do anything to see it again.
also also if you're gonna listen to anything from this musical, listen to "johanna: act two sequence". i need this song engraved in me actually.
this was my fit (my aunt, my mom & i all wore our matching sweeney shirts!)
here's the cast for our performance if you're interested!!
