A Second Chance

Chapter 17

One morning at the beginning of September, Rory was getting Matthew ready for his first day of kindergarten. Rory had was also officially on maternity leave so she was expecting to be pretty bored now that Mathew would be in school and Logan at work.

"Mommy, how much longer until the babies come?"

"2 weeks" Rory said. 

"Why can't we have them now?"

"Because it's too early" Rory said. "They still have a little bit more growing to do in my tummy before they can come out"

"I want them to be here now"

"I know. I do too"

After dropping Matthew off at school, Rory went to Stars Hollow to see her mom. Rory and's Lorelai were sitting in the dragonfly inn, drinking coffee.

"Please" Lorelai said

"No" Rory laughed. She'd made the mistake of telling her mother that she and Logan had finally decided on the babies names, but that they wouldn't be telling anyone until after they were born.

"Just tell me one. The girl. Tell me the girl's name"

"No"

"Does Matthew know?"

"Nope"

Just then sookie walked out of the kitchen. "Oh, Rory, you look great!"

"Thanks sookie" Rory smiled.

"Tell me" Lorelai said.

"Tell you what?" Sookie asked.

"She won't tell me the babies names"

"I'm not telling anyone" Rory said. "Not even Matthew"

"Boo"

Rory spent some time with her mom and went to see Lane before heading back to Hartford to pick Matthew up from school. She was glad to see that he was happy when he walked out of his classroom.

"How was your day?" Rory asked as she hugged Matthew.

"It was so good!" Matthew said. "Can Daniel come to our house now?"

"I don't know who Daniel is" Rory said

"He's my friend. Can he come to our house?"

"I have to talk to his parents first" Rory said. "What if he comes a different day?"

"Ok"

"Alright"

The next 2 weeks went by was faster than Rory and Logan expected them to and before they knew it, it was their last night as a cute little family of 3. After having Matthew's choice of dinner, Rory got him bathed and ready for bed, and then she was sitting next to him on his bed, reading books. Rory read to him every night since he was born. It was their special time just for the two of them, every night before he went to sleep.

"If you give a mouse a cookie" Rory said softly

"He's going to ask for a glass of milk" Matthew said. They read that book every single night, it was Matthew's favorite, and he could recite the whole thing.

Rory chuckled. "When you give him the milk"

"He'll probably ask you for a straw" Matthew said.

"When he's finished..." Rory finished reading that book and a few others, including one that Matthew could actually read a lot of on his own. Before she left the room, she wanted to remind him that she wouldn't be there when he woke up the next morning. Rory and Logan were leaving the house at 5am to go to the hospital. "Do you remember what's happening tomorrow?" Rory asked.
