The landscape gradually shifted as we approached the outskirts of the small town where Jesse was staying at Uncle James's house. The familiar sights brought a mix of relief and anticipation. Skylar, still resting on the makeshift sled.

With each step, the distance to Jesse's house closed, and the anticipation of what awaited us intensified. Skylar stirred on the sled, perhaps sensing the change in surroundings. As we navigated through the quiet town, the bond that had formed among us during this harrowing journey became the thread that held us together, guiding us toward the refuge of family and the promise of safety.

As the houses grew closer, I felt a mix of emotions—relief, anxiety, and a yearning for the comfort of family. The familiar streets led us closer to Uncle James's house, where Jesse and Sammy, my brother and sister, were staying. The town, although quiet, seemed to hold a sense of normalcy that had been absent in the chaos of the city and the vast desert.

"We're almost there," I murmured, a mixture of relief and anticipation coursing through me.

"I'm so ready to stop walking, I hope he's okay with us coming along" Daniel gaze shifting between the houses lining the streets.

As we approached Uncle James's house, memories of childhood visits flooded my mind. The white picket fence, the well-maintained garden—symbols of a simpler time that now held the promise of sanctuary.

"Me too. I just hope Jesse and Sammy are still here," I voiced my concern, the worry etched on my face.

"Don't think like that. They will be there." Daniel added, his voice carrying a sense of reassurance.

Turning the corner, we finally reached Uncle James's house. The familiarity of the place was a balm to my weary soul. Daniel and I exchanged a glance, a silent acknowledgment of the journey we had undertaken together.

"I'll go knock on the door," I said, taking a deep breath.

As I approached the door, a mix of emotions stirred within me. The door swung open, revealing Jesse's worried yet relieved expression.

My brother Jesse stood there, his expression shifting from disbelief to sheer joy as he recognized Delilah stepping out of the car. The exhaustion etched on her face seemed to evaporate in the warmth of the reunion.

"Delilah?" Jesse's voice carried a mix of surprise and happiness. He rushed forward, enveloping her in a tight hug, breaking the silence that had settled around us. "I thought you were... I didn't know if you made it."

The warmth of Jesse's embrace comforted me, momentarily easing the tension that had built up during our arduous journey. Sammy, recognizing my voice, rushed over and joined the hug.

"Delilah, we were so worried about you," Sammy said, her eyes reflecting a mix of relief and concern.

"I'm glad we made it here alive." I replied, taking a moment to cherish the reunion with my siblings.

Jesse gestured towards Daniel, who stood at the entrance, still holding onto the makeshift sled. "And who's this?"

"This is Daniel, My best friend" I introduced him. "He's been with me through all of this. We wouldn't have made it without him."

"Hey," Daniel greeted, offering a tired but genuine smile.

Jesse extended his hand, shaking Daniel's firmly. "Thank you for looking out for my sister."

"No problem." Daniel replied, glancing at me with a nod of affirmation.

Uncle James, who had been observing the reunion, spoke up, "You all must be exhausted. Come inside, rest, and tell us everything. We need to figure out what to do next."
