Patrick's P.O.V.

I woke up slowly. I hardly remembered falling asleep.

All I noticed was the numb feeling that was weighing my arm down.

Looking over, I caught sight of Mel clinging to my arm. Somehow her hand had managed to intertwine with mine.

Her hair was a dark, shimmery halo above her head, her lips parted slightly. I could faintly hear her heartbeat correspond with the gentle rise and fall of her chest.

But man, she was killing my arm.

Not that I really minded, but it kind of hurt.

"Melanie!" I whispered, shaking her shoulder gently.

No response.

"Mel?" She moaned quietly but stayed asleep, only stirring slightly.

I raised my voice a bit. "Mel!"

Her eyes shot open. "Wha?" Her nose wrinkled as she yawned.

"Uh.... sorry to wake you. But you're kinda killing my arm here," I chuckled.

She sat up and let go of my hand to rub her eyes. "Oh, s-sorry."

I smiled. "It's fine."

"What time is it?" Mel wondered, stretching her arms above her head.

"Uh..." My hand slipped into my pocket and my fingers recognized the smooth surface of my phone. I winced as I turned on the bright screen, for my eyes were still groggy with sleep.

"11:30. We're almost there."

"I'm gonna head to bed," she yawned. "Could you wake me up in an hour?"

"Yeah, sure."

I frowned as she disappeared into the back.

What was I expecting?

For her to invite me to join her?

We had only been dating a couple weeks!

Straighten out, Stump!

I instantly became lonely and bored as hell.

I sighed, whipping out my phone again.

I wrinkled my nose in disgust upon seeing five new text messages from you-know-who.

Great.

I rolled my eyes as I flipped through each one.

i thought I'd come to your show this evening ;)

I can't wait to see the band play with Melanie!

I bet you'll all do great (:

Hello?

Are you ignoring me?

I groaned and deleted each one as quickly as possible. I couldn't help but cringe as I looked at the messages.

How could she be so fake?

Since when was she even remotely excited to see me play?

I was especially shocked she would mention being excited to see Melanie. This shocked me in ways I could never understand.

Did she even think she could show her face after what she had done?

Because of her, Melanie could have died.

Shit...

Melanie could've died.

It was all Taylor.

How far was she going to go until she was satisfied?

Melanie wasn't safe as long as Taylor was around her.

She was too vulnerable to her lies and petty comments.

She had already almost succomed to Taylor's awful taunting words.

Taylor needed to work on her maturity. It was an important virtue, but unfortunately it remained unaquired.

Sorry for the short chapter.

But as I am currently headed home from Germany, I will be publishing way more often.
