I wasn't complaining though, my stomach is very happy.
I watch as Julian gets up grabbing his keys off the table.
"You going?" I ask putting the empty packets and boxes of food in the bin.
"Yeah. Gotta get my beauty sleep you know. Bye Dora!" he says as he brings me into a tight hug. I grumble, as he chuckles knowing that I hate being called that.
"And remember, only I give the best hugs. This beast has nothing on me. Got it?" I just laugh at him as he rolls his sleeves up and flexes his muscles at me.
"Oh I'm sure. Now go I'm sure Caleb wants to get in on those oh so very.... skinny arms." Julian just gasps at me before giving me a cheeky smile.
"Use protection!" He shouts at me before I slam the door on him. I can here his booming laughter through the door as he goes down the hallway of my apartment building. What am I doing to do with him?
Walking into my bedroom I grab some PJ's before going to get changed, I'll shower in the morning. Putting on a thick hoodie to sleep in, I looked at my arm in the mirror. The bruise there looks worse than yesterday, I guess that's what happens when a guard decides to yank your arm very hard.
Deciding to get some sleep before the big day tomorrow I make my way towards my bed before removing the bed covers so I can get under them a lot easier.
As soon as my head hits the pillow my eyes slowly start to close today's events catching up with me.
Breathing quickly and shallowly, my lungs begin to burn for air as I run down a dark corridor once more. Why is the dream the same every time? I keep running for what seems like an eternity in an attempt to find at least a glimmer of hope in this place.
Following the red lights I round corner after corner trying to see if I can find a way out of this place. If I can even get myself out of this place.
As soon as I realise I've reached a dead end, I stop. Oh for the love of... Just let me out, please. As I turn around, I see the silhouette of a black figure that I have become accustomed to seeing in all of my dreams. I just want one happy dream. Just one.
The familiar ice blue eyes. Why do I feel like I've seen those eyes before? As soon as I ask that question it's seems to be instantly answered. He emerges from the shadows, his face coming into view.
The beast.
Slowly, like in all my other dreams, he approaches me and then slowly raises his hand to cup my cheek. His face settling into the space between my shoulder and neck nook. He placed his other hand on my back and pulled me into his chest. This is new. This is not how my dreams usually go.
His hand continues running up and down my back as if trying to comfort me from whatever is scaring me. Does he not know that he's the one scaring me? His other hand caresses my cheek. The contrast between my soft skin, and his calloused fingers obvious.
I'm waiting for impending death but whenever I find myself tensing preparing for it to happen... It never does. Just the warm hug of this... man. The support. The warmth. This is the first time for once that I actually feel safe other than being around Julian. I feel understood. I feel.... warm.
He moves his arms from around me as I tense up again. This is it. This is where it happens. Both his hands cup my cheeks before he leans down connecting his lips to my forehead. So soft. He moves his forehead to mine both of us just staring deeply into one another's eyes. Is this what safe is?
My eyes slowly open greeting the bright light creeping in through the slit of my curtain. Why? I was sleeping so peacefully, why? How is the sun shining through that tiny gap?..... Why?
I hate the mornings. If you like mornings, you're a psychopath.
I just pause in my bed looking up at my ceiling. This is the first time I've ever slept well. A dream not ending in my death or pain, but support and warmth. I slowly sit up as I notice a few tears on my pillow. But these aren't sad tears, they are happy. At least I think they're happy.
Getting up from my bed I grab the clothes that the guards gave me yesterday. They told me this was going to be my new uniform, which just consisted of some white leggings and a white crop top shirt. I am not looking forward to being on period with these leggings. That's dangerous. It's like a disaster waiting to happen.
After I was finally ready I made my way towards the building where I would now be working with someone who everyone fears. No one would dare go anywhere near him, apart from the guy I met yesterday I guess.
Walking up the stairs I made my way to the black door. I noticed the blonde guard from yesterday standing next to the older aged man who gave me this job.
My hands shake, nervous for whatever the universe has planned for me today.
"Good morning Miss Hart." The older man said.
"You can just call me Eudora. I didn't get both of your names." I said shyly, almost whispering the words. I've always had trouble with meeting new people. Always have and most likely always will.
"My name is Doctor Enzo Michaelson... and this is Caleb Everett." He said pointing towards the one called Caleb. Caleb? As in Julian's Caleb? No.... probably a different Caleb.
Caleb is wearing an all black uniform, a bullet proof vest strapped to his chest, whilst his blonde hair is slicked back.
Wait..... Doctor Enzo Michaelson. He owns this place. Of course he owns this place, I just had to make a deal with the big bad boss.
"It's nice that you're both here today." Doctor Michaelson just looks back down at his documents, as Caleb gives me a warm smile. I try to return his smile, but it seems forced. He may seem nice but that doesn't mean he is.
"Caleb here will be guarding you while you are working, making sure that nothing happens during your time with the 'beast.'" I look towards Caleb giving him another smile which he returned. If this is Julian's Caleb I approve.
"Well how about we get started? We've get plenty to do today. This is yours." Doctor Michaelson said as he handed me a touchscreen glass tablet with a stylus attached to the side.
"That.... is for writing down any notes that you think are important. Write anything he does or says throughout the day. Not that he says much anyway, he tends to snarl and growl." He says annoyed, slamming his pen back down on his desk.
"Follow me" he says.
I follow after Doctor Michaelson and Caleb. I grow confused when I notice we're not going through the black door like last time. Where are we going? Going down multiple corridors we come to some double doors which immediately open as we walk over to it.
Multiple scientists are standing in the corner looking at some screens, monitors everywhere.
A very big glass screen from the ceiling to the floor stands tall with multiple buttons. For what who knows.
"Right. How about we get started?" Said Doctor Michaelson as he presses a button next to the glass.
The glass changes as soon as he presses it enabling us to see into the room. It doesn't seem like he can see us though. This feels like were invading his privacy. I don't like it.
I step closer towards the glass, as Dr Michaelson presses another button.
My eyes immediately meet the familiar glowing blue eyes of the 'beast'.
