"You don't get a choice." Silas shouts through the wood.
"When have I ever?" I rasp under my breath turning back to my desk to finish my paper. The realm may see me as many things, but I will not be seen as stupid.

I shoot up in bed. A weird alarm sounding from around the room.
"All students meet in the west wing." A monotone voice sounds out. The message repeating every few seconds.
I throw on a fresh black sweat set and slip into some running shoes. I open my door and quickly jog down the stairs meeting the Quint at the front door. I don't look at any of them and we walk to the west wing. It's the only place big enough for all the students. I see Sinclair's gold hair piled in a messy bun on her head.
"Sin! Babe!" I shout in the crowd. She turns and makes her way to me. I loop my arm around her waist and pull her close to my body to shield her from the crowd. I can feel all of the Prince's staring at us.
"Val." She sighs and melts slightly in my grasp. "I've been looking everywhere for you."
"Do you know what's going on?" I question noticing for the first time that she wearing a very small nightgown. They're pink with yellow ducks all over it, booty shorts and matching crop top. I bite my lip looking at her trying not to laugh. That's a cute fucking nightgown.
She notices my gaze and looks down. "I wasn't expecting company." She blushes and the laugh slips from my lips.
"Do you want my hoodie?" I start shrugging out of it when she turns and presses her back against my front stopping me mid motion.
"No." She tilts her head back and looks up at me. "Just hold me." I wrap my arms around her and lean down into the side of her neck. Damn she's good. We share a knowing smile and hide our smirks. Four gazes glare into my back. This is more fun than I thought it would be. Lemons and life right?
Dean Whyriss walks onto a makeshift raised earth platform. Professors Heathrow, Julia, Alister and one other I don't know stand behind her.
"Who's the guy on the far right?" I question in Sin's ear.
"That's Professor Locke. He teaches the Knight's elective course for fifth years. He's actually my favorite teacher." She says squeezing my arms with her hands. Professor Locke's orange eyes scan the room before settling on Dean Whyriss.
"I didn't know you wanted to be a knight." I whisper. She would actually be a really good one.
"Of course. I did tell you who my dad was right." She gives me a smile and I nod smiling back.
"Do you know what's going on?" I repeat my earlier question and she shrugs.
"I'm sure we're about to find out."
Dean Whyriss steps up to a microphone and her voice carries out over the sea of students. "Students." She addresses. "Reports have come in from around the realm that Filchers have been spotted." Her voice echoes in the large space. Gasps ring out across the room. "The school was built centuries ago to unite the people and stop this very same evil from taking over the realm. We are once again being called to arms." Silence from all of us.
Filchers are animated corpses that look very lifelike, they run around with incredible speed and strength taking the soul from anything they can get their teeth on. They survive by eating living things. The worst part, if a Filcher eats your soul completely you turn into one of them.
"We've prepared you for the world at the Academy. Now we must prepare you for war." The other professors step forward hand in hand. "My Quint and I will be working closely with the students in the war program. Go now and rest. We won't get much time to do that after tonight."
