"Honey, wake up, you don't want to be late for your first day!" My mom called, opening my door.

"Actually, I wouldn't mind being late," I said under my breath while getting out of bed, going to my closet.

"Spencer, shut up and get ready."

"Wow mom, thanks." She closed my door. I picked out my classic black yoga pants, a band tank top, and a black jacket. What can I say? I feel good in black. Then, I took my hair out of the braid I slept in and shook out my dark brown waves. Putting on my flats, I grabbed my school bag and walked out of my room. Then ran down the stairs, said goodbye to mom, and walked out of the front door.

"Hey, idiot!" I smiled as I threw my bag into the backseat and climbed into the passenger's seat.

"Sup brat," He smirked. His almost-black, brown hair fell just above his eyes.

"Shut up," I laughed."Let's go."

"Alright. Damn, someone's bossy." He got in the car and drove to our school. My brother was only a year younger than me, making him 17. Yes, he has a car and I do not. The car ride didn't consist of much talking and as much as I wanted to know what was going on, I didn't pester him over it.

I heard a huge squeal as soon as we pulled into our parking spot, "SPENCER!"

"Lacey, what the absolute hell?!" My brother softly yelled at my best friend, holding his ears and pushing her away from his door.

"Oh, hey Connor!" Lacey waved at my brother.

"Oh, hey Connor." My brother mocked, making me chuckle.

"Spencer!" Lacey threw her arms around me while I attempted to grab my bag from the back seat. Her shoulder length blonde hair ending up in my eyes.

"Lace, why the hell do you have an extra pep in your step today?" I looked at her concerned.

She burst out into a nervous laugh."Nothing! You're crazy, Spencer." She looked away nervously. "Bye Connor," she walked away dragging me with her, "We're gonna be late for science, come on." She continued dragging me to my locker.

"Lace, go to class, please, and save me a seat." I told her opening my locker, "I'll be there in a sec okay?" She muttered an okay, nodded, and walked away.

At my locker, I heard people coming, but, didn't think much about it since it was probably just a straggler student who didn't care about being late.

"Hey, Spencer." I heard behind me.

I recognized her voice right away. "Kristy." I turned around with a fake smile, but, when I said her name, disgust had rapidly spread across my face. "What the hell do you want?"

"Well, I was going to ask if you were going to Jen's party but then I thought, 'Oh yeah, who would invite you?'" She laughed.

"Even if I had been invited, why would I come if bitches just like you will be there?" I smirked.

"Leave her alone, Kristy." A voice came from the other side of the hallway. It was her boyfriend, otherwise known as Austin, who has the reputation as the badass of our school.

"Come on Austin, I'm just having some fun!" She pouted, sticking her bottom lip out and giving him the biggest sad eyes she could.

"Kristy. Leave her alone." He said again more forcefully.

"OK, OK, damn." Kristy walked away holding her hands up in defeat. "Don't know why you're sticking up for the trash," she muttered to herself, flipped her not-so-natural blonde hair and walked away. What a fake bitch.

"Hey, you okay?" He looked at me, concern enveloping in his perfectly green eyes.

"Doesn't matter," I said turning and grabbing the stuff out of my locker. I was late for science now. Shutting my locker, I walked towards my class without another word.

"What? No, 'thank you'?" I heard him yell down the hall.

"Nope," I popped the 'p' as I continued walking down the hall. I walked into the class earning a dirty stare from my teacher as I sat down next to Lacey.

The bell rang and as soon as we got in the hallway, Lacey unsurprisingly questioned me, "What the hell happened? Why were you so late? It's not like you to be late, Spence, so what happened?"

"The Wicked Witch of the West happened." Staring down the hallway, I could see Kristy standing with her followers. Emphasizing 'followers' because we all know they're not her friends.

"I don't understand? She hasn't noticed you before? I mean, you've always been pretty invisible to her."

"Wow, thanks, Lace. Way to boost my confidence." I looked at my best friend then back to the group.

"Hey, uh, I would say your name but, you never actually gave me one." Austin's voice came from behind me. I turned and looked at him as he flipped a piece of his chestnut-brown hair out of his face.

I looked at Lacey with an annoyed expression on my face and turned back to Austin. "Hey, Austin, please explain to me why I should tell you my name." Lacey gasped at my harshness, looked at me with wide eyes, and dropped her jaw. "Lacey, close your mouth and do not look at me like that." I turned back to Austin with my eyebrows raised, waiting for him to answer.

"Well, I kinda saved you this morning." He looked down, putting his hands in his pocket, then looked back up. He isn't being shy, he's being the player we all know he is.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Lacey staring at me in confusion. I knew it was because I hadn't gotten to the whole 'Austin was also there and told Kristy to leave me alone' part of the story. "Actually, I was handling myself perfectly fine, you just showed up," I said with a straight face, "I don't see how I'd be in any type of debt to you."

I could see my rejection took him aback, "Oh, well, can I know it anyways?"

"Her name is-" Lacey popped in but I cut her off.

"Lacey! Shut up." I gave her a harsh look. "C'mon, let's go," I began pulling her away, no longer interested in sticking around for this conversation.

"See you later," Austin called, winking at me as I walked away.

"I hope not!" Continuing walking away.
