The city was bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun, casting long shadows that danced on the cobblestone streets. Nikolai Gogol, a man of mystery and power in the DOA, watched from a distance as Y/N, the object of his obsession, walked home.

"Y/N," he whispered to himself, his voice barely audible over the bustling city noise. His eyes, usually cold and calculating, softened as he watched Y/N. Ever since Fyodor introduced her, he had always been drawn to Y/N's strength and resilience, their ability to remain kind in a world that was anything but. It was these qualities that made him want to possess them, to keep them safe and away from the harsh realities of their world.

As Y/N turned a corner, Nikolai followed, keeping a safe distance. He watched as Y/N's face lit up in a smile, waving at a familiar shopkeeper. The sight of Y/N's happiness made his heart ache with longing. He wanted to be the reason for that smile.

Suddenly, the sky darkened, and a heavy downpour began. Y/N was caught in the rain, without an umbrella. Nikolai watched as Y/N tried to find shelter, their clothes getting soaked.

Without a second thought, Nikolai moved towards Y/N, opening his own umbrella. He offered it to Y/N, who looked surprised but grateful.

"Thank you, Nikolai," Y/N said, their voice soft. Nikolai felt his heart flutter at the sound of his name on Y/N's lips. He reached out, gently wiping away a raindrop from Y/N's cheek.

"Anything for you, Y/N," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. He pulled Y/N into a hug, holding them close. He could feel Y/N's heartbeat against his chest, a comforting rhythm that soothed his chaotic thoughts.

As they stood there, under the umbrella, Nikolai made a silent vow. He would do whatever it took to keep Y/N safe, even if it meant braving the storm. After all, in his eyes, Y/N was worth every drop.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Y/N started to notice a change in Nikolai. He was always around, always watching. His once comforting presence now felt suffocating.

"Nikolai," Y/N began one day, their voice shaky. "You're always around. It's... it's starting to scare me."

Nikolai looked at Y/N, his eyes wide with surprise. He hadn't expected Y/N to confront him about his behavior. He had thought he was being subtle, that he was protecting Y/N without them knowing.

"I... I didn't mean to scare you, Y/N," Nikolai said, his voice barely above a whisper. He looked down, unable to meet Y/N's gaze. "I just... I just wanted to keep you safe."

Y/N sighed, running a hand through their hair. They knew Nikolai meant well, but his obsession was starting to take a toll on them. They needed space, they needed to breathe.

"Nikolai," Y/N said, their voice firm. "I appreciate your concern, but I need some space. I can take care of myself."

Nikolai nodded, understanding Y/N's words. He promised to give Y/N the space they needed, even though it pained him to do so. He watched as Y/N walked away, his heart aching with longing.

As he stood there, Nikolai made another vow. He would learn to love Y/N from a distance, to respect their boundaries. After all, in his eyes, Y/N's happiness was worth every sacrifice.

But, despite Nikolai's promise to give Y/N space, he found it impossible to let them go. His obsession with Y/N only grew stronger, and he found himself constantly watching over them, unable to keep his distance.

One night, Y/N decided to visit Nikolai's house. They had been invited over for dinner, a seemingly innocent invitation that they accepted without a second thought.

"Nikolai," Y/N said as they stepped into his house, their eyes taking in the lavish interior. "Your house is beautiful."

Nikolai smiled, leading Y/N to the dining room. "Thank you, Y/N. I'm glad you like it."

As the night wore on, Y/N couldn't help but notice a door that Nikolai seemed to avoid. It was a simple closet door, but Nikolai's nervous glances towards it piqued Y/N's curiosity.

"Nikolai," Y/N began, their gaze fixed on the closet door. "What's in there?"

Nikolai's smile faltered, and he quickly shook his head. "It's nothing, Y/N. Just some old things I'd rather not show."

Despite Nikolai's words, Y/N couldn't shake off their curiosity. When Nikolai excused himself to use the restroom, Y/N seized the opportunity to explore the closet.

What they found inside was horrifying. The closet was filled with the lifeless bodies of people Nikolai had killed, all because of his obsession with Y/N. The sight of the blood and the lifeless eyes staring back at them made Y/N's stomach churn.

When Nikolai returned and found Y/N standing in front of the open closet, his heart dropped. He knew he had been discovered, and the look of horror on Y/N's face confirmed his worst fears.

"Y/N," Nikolai began, his voice shaky. "I can explain..."

But Y/N was already backing away, their eyes wide with fear. Nikolai reached out, desperate to explain, but Y/N was already running, leaving Nikolai alone with his obsession and the consequences of his actions.

When Nikolai returned and found Y/N standing in front of the open closet, his heart dropped. He knew he had been discovered, and the look of horror on Y/N's face confirmed his worst fears.

"Nikolai," Y/N began, their voice trembling. "What... what is this?"

Nikolai took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to say. "It was because I saw them with you, Y/N," he said, his voice steady despite the turmoil within him. "No one else is supposed to be with my love. No one!"

Y/N stared at Nikolai, their eyes wide with shock and disbelief. "Nikolai, this... this is insane," they said, their voice barely above a whisper. "You're... you're crazy."

Nikolai could only watch as Y/N backed away, their expression a mix of fear and disgust. He had hoped that Y/N would understand, that they would see the lengths he was willing to go to protect them. But all he saw in Y/N's eyes was fear, and it broke his heart.

In the days that followed, Y/N found themselves unable to forget what they had seen in Nikolai's closet. The image of the lifeless bodies, the blood, and Nikolai's confession haunted their every waking moment.

They tried to avoid Nikolai, to put distance between them. But Nikolai was relentless. He was always there, always watching. His obsession with Y/N had turned into something dark and dangerous.

One day, Y/N decided to confront Nikolai. They needed answers, they needed to understand why Nikolai had done what he did.

"Nikolai," Y/N said, their voice firm despite the fear gnawing at them. "We need to talk."

Nikolai looked at Y/N, his eyes filled with a mix of longing and regret. "Y/N," he began, his voice barely above a whisper. "I... I can explain."

But Y/N shook their head, cutting him off. "No, Nikolai. You don't get to explain. You don't get to justify what you did."

Nikolai flinched at Y/N's words, but he didn't interrupt. He knew he had no right to defend his actions.

"I loved you, Nikolai," Y/N continued, their voice breaking. "But this... this isn't love. This is obsession. And it's not healthy."

Nikolai could only watch as Y/N walked away, leaving him alone with his guilt and regret. He had lost Y/N, the one person he cared about more than anything. And it was all because of his obsession.
