Run Up

"Ok, so maybe I was with him when he made a play." I say

"Oh my god" She says as she puts her head down

"Mama, what happened?" I ask

"It was a drive by sweetie, the police said they think it was an targeted attack, and now I know why. Damien done got you mixed up in his mess!" She says

"Mom, it wasn't his fault" I tell her

"I don't care, he's no son of mine." She says

"Mom, he's your son whether you like it or not. We both are." I tell her

"I don't care, I didn't raise you to be thugs, I raised you to be graduates, to make something of yourselves." She takes a pause and sighs "To be better than me."

"Mom, we're all we got, we can't be divided." I say

"I can't have this conversation with you right now, you need to get some rest." She says as she gets up and leaves

I lay my head back and sigh. Then the only thing I can immediately think about is Melo. I miss him. I'm sure he's glad I got shot.

Melo POV:

After school, I head home and take a nap. When I wake up, I go downstairs and eat some of the food my mom made. Then I get a text that everyone is meeting up at Fireball to apparently celebrate Kennedi fighting Ari, so I put some clothes on and head out.

*MORE MUSIC NOWWWW*

Kennedi POV:

I step into fire ball looking like the baddest bitch and I see everyone at a section. When I get up there I see the entire basketball team and the cheerleading squad. When I look to the side I see Ari with a busted lip, bloody nose, and two black eyes.

"She really popped out when she looking like that" I say as I laugh and sit down with everybody else

"Girl she don't want no smoke" Saniya says

"I told her ass to sit down" I say

"What you think you are, the king" Javontae says

"No, the queen" I say

"You got it" Javontae says with a laugh

After a few more laughs we all decide to play some pool. Me and Saniya are on a team and Javontae and Melo are on a team. The rest of the teams are all mixed up. After a few minutes of pool, Damien walks in. Dame, he is fine as hell. I should go welcome him to the party, right?

"Hey Dae Dae" I say with a laugh as I hug him

"Man don't nobody call me that no more" He says with a laugh

"My bad, but how are you?" I say with a concerned look on my face

"I'm good, I guess. Deion woke up today" He says

"What, he did" I say surprised "Well that's good. How he doin?"

"He good, he just restin. I came to pop out on y'all tho, I seen you did yo thang at school today" He laughs "But for real tho, thank you for defending my brother name, we both know she was trying to make a joke out how he got shot."

"It's cool, no thank you needed. She had a ass whooping pending anyway" I say with a smile

"I feel you on that" He says as he pulls me into a hug

"Dae, you a lil touchy feely tonight huh" I say

"My bad then, let me stop before you box my ass up too" He laughs

"Boy shut up" I say as I nudge him playfully

"But for real, thank you. You ain't know how much it means to me that you were defending my brother's name." He says
