"Mommy," Esther tapped me while I was half asleep

"Yes?"

"It's my first day of school and I think we're late," I turned over frantically and checked the clock

7:50

"Come on, come on!" I had ten minutes to get her to school on time and I wasn't ready.

I threw on a crazy outfit and brushed my hair and teeth before buckling her into her car seat and leaving.

We ran as fast as we could through the halls to beat the school bell.

"My little legs are too short!" She exclaimed

"Don't worry, we'll make it," I reassured her

Though the hall seemed a thousand miles long, we made it to classroom right on the bell.

"Do you have to go?"

"I thought you were excited?" All the other parents looked at me like I was a deranged being

"From this time to lunchtime is a long time," she whined

"Hey, don't be sad, I'll see you soon," I kissed her forehead

"I love you," she kissed me back

"I love you too," I got up and when I turned around I saw Tyler.

The halls were empty now, it was just us.

"What do you think you're doing?" I whispered screamed

"They told me she was beautiful," he said

"She's mine and you are so very lucky I didn't tell her about men like you," I threatened

"I came to apologize," he paused

"I saw the way you looked at him, you never looked at me like that. I was jealous and selfish, I knew that because of the way you two felt if one were to die the other would kill themselves to be together. But, you didn't," he had tears in his eyes now

"No, I didn't, I wanted to honor my mother by living," I couldn't suppress the anger inside of me

"I'm so sorry," he apologized

"Can sorry bring him back to me? Can sorry bring Esther an amazing father? Can sorry make it stop hurting? No, it can't so you need to go. I never want to see you anywhere near my daughter or God so help me," I said angrily

A month and some change has passed since I brought Esther home. She has been the only focus in my life. When I look into her eyes I know Nik is with me and that's so comforting. Esther has become my world and I will protect her in any and every way possible.

I still battled with myself on whether to tell her about my lifestyle. I wanted her to accept me.
