introduction - part 3

The Bible:
"But understand this, that in the last days, there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people." (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Chloe:
They say that the current generation is lost. As parents, we have failed to raise our children. My two children are now adults and some of their choices do worry me. My son's ambition is to be a gay porno star. My daughter seems to be addicted to drugs. She has recently told me that she was kicked out of university because she had failed her exams. This was of course because of her partying and her drugs. I suspected she got drunk a lot as well. I know that drugs and alcohol have been a problem for generations. I just hoped it would not happen to my own daughter. She was just starting her adult life and it now seems as if her future was destroyed and she was now destroying her own body. I could get my brother to have a spiritual talk with her, but my daughter is an atheist. I wanted to help her, but my husband kicked her out as soon as he heard that his daughter was a drug addict. This of course caused a fight between me and him. It's now that we as parents should be helping her. It worried me about where she would live and if she could get help.

Bishop O'Keeffe:
I had a mass in the Cathedral today. I would soon be a cardinal and would have other duties. I do not think that it made a difference. The Cathedral was empty except for a few old women who were there. I doubt they were listening to me as they were mumbling their own Rosaries and novenas. It was not very encouraging for me to hold a mass. It was as if was a waste of time. I wonder did the builders realised centuries ago when they built this Cathedral that it would one day not be used or appreciated. Many medieval Churches were now being used as art galleries or offices. Religion was no longer important. When the pope spoke, no one even listened to him anymore. The Bible does say not to worry about attendance. When two or three are gathered in the name of Jesus, he is there. I am not even sure that I was praying to God. I was just reading the text of the mass that had been said for hundreds of years. This was not praying, it was me just rambling. Maybe this is because I found it hard to believe what I said.

Chloe:
I told my husband that I wanted a divorce. There are several reasons for this. I do not like the way he is harsh on our children. He does not accept them or help them. Kicking our daughter out of the house was the last straw. Besides this, I no longer loved him. I have been seeing several men and have had sexual relations with them. This is considered cheating and my brother would even say it's a sin. I think life is very short and we should have as much fun as possible. I am quite happy with my decision to get a divorce. I will no longer be living with a man that I no longer love.

Russia has cut off its gas supplies to Europe as a way to persuade Europe not to help Ukraine. This has caused insecurity and inflation. Europe has managed to find other supplies and some observers say that this is one of the few times that the EU acted in an effective way. Today, the EU has announced that they have made a trade deal with Israel that will secure the gas needs in the EU. This is possible because Israel has discovered one of the largest gas reserves in the world. While Russia has made no comment on this deal, some political commentators have said it will cause more instability in the Middle East. This is because some countries that get money from gas and oil now have to share the profits with Israel. Israel's neighbours do not want to see them succeed.

Chloe:
Life changes so fast and it can be so confusing. A few weeks ago, my son came out of the closet and told everyone that he was gay. He was even doing gay films. This was not a decision that I liked. However, he had my support and I will always love him. When he visited me today, he told me that he gave up being a gay model and had given all the money he had earned to the poor. He considers the money sin-money and does not feel good it is in his bank account. My son has found God, and that is the reason for his big change. He was at a photo shoot and stayed at a hotel when he started reading the Bible. Now he feels as if he is born again. I told him that he could stay at the new apartment I got after the divorce. He told me that he wanted to go and live in the slum area. This was where God was calling him. He wanted to remind them that Jesus is with them and there is always hope.
