Clifton's POV.

I couldn't get over the number of boys that looked guilty as they passed us in the corridor. I remembered the first day when I walked with Xander and the abuse and disrespect that he had been shown.

Some of these boys had been guilty of doing that. No wonder they looked worried after hearing in the Assembly what Xander had done. I would be cacking myself if it had been me. Serves them right. They must have short memories.

Runny handed us all a leaflet as we entered his class. It was advising us that the Housemaster would be increasing his surveillance of the corridors and toilets at night and CCTV cameras would be installed at the entrance to all the bathrooms and toilets to monitor who enters and leaves, noting the times.

There was a paragraph that stated that any boy, who has been a victim of sexual abuse, bullying or blackmail, could speak to the author of the pamphlet, or any member of staff they felt comfortable with, and be assured that they will be granted anonymity. There was a telephone number listed that anyone could call to report any further abuse.

The name at the bottom of the form was not Jock's but Nessie's.

"Looks like you were right about trusting Nessie." I admitted to Xander as the class ended and were walking to our next one. "I wonder where he went and how he's getting on with Mr Braithwaite? Bet old Jock's worried he's going to have the rug pulled from under his feet."

We bumped into Zane and Chalky in the main concourse. I wondered if the remark by Dickie at the end of the Assembly would create a barrier between us. "Thanks for your support earlier. It's good to know I have friends right now."

Zane held out his hand. "Dickie has proved himself to be a right twat. Whatever he claims is immaterial. You have proved you are an okay guy by supporting Xander and as far as Chalky and I are concerned we're glad to be your teammate and friend."

He and Chalky then shook Xander's hand as Archie and Dexter from the rugby team appeared and began shaking my hand, telling me more or less the same thing.

Quite a crowd formed round us as other boys expressed their support. Not once was there any remark or question about what Dickie had shouted out.

I felt confident that there wasn't any issue with any of them of me being gay.

I looked to see how Xander was coping and he was talking on one side with River and his roommate. He was laughing and joking quite freely with them. It surprised me as I didn't realise that he knew them that well. I had never seen them talking.

River saw me looking and beckoned me over, holding his hand out.

"Thanks for your support during the assembly," I said as we shook hands.
