AUTHORS NOTE
never really put one of these at the beginning of a chapter, but for this chapter's purpose, i'm going to.

i know the song that i'm putting in this story is not from the 80's, but it's here for the purpose of the story.

thank you!

"Sometimes when I miss you, I put those records on."

Mike was back in his basement, like usual, listening to some music.

And that's when he heard it.

The little drums and then the guitar intro.

He looked over to the radio and his lips parted.

'Same lips red, same eyes blue, same white shirt couple more tattoos.'

It was the song. Him and Will's song.

"I really love this song." Will said.

"Yeah, me too." Mike agreed.

They both looked at each other.

"You wanna..." Mike trailed off.

"Dance?" Will raised his eyebrows.

Mike nodded.

The corner of Will's lips turned upward. "Of course I do."

Mike smiled back and stood up.

He held out his hand and Will took it.

Mike pressed his lips onto the back of his hand before pulling him up.

Will draped his arms around Mike's neck and Mike wrapped his arms around Will's waist.

'We're not who we used to be. We're not who we used to be. We're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me. Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat.'

The beat dropped as they swayed back and forth.

As the song went on, they danced slower and slower and Will dipped his head lower and lower until his head was resting in the crook of Mike's neck.

'I'm just trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat.'

The song ended and Will pressed a kiss onto Mike's neck.

"You're the reason I have a heartbeat." He whispered into Mike's neck.

Mike closed his eyes and exhaled, smiling to himself.

Will picked his head up and they shared a kiss.

Mike didn't believe that now, though. Now, Mike believed that he was the reason Will didn't have a heartbeat.

Mike got up and turned the radio off before plopping back onto the couch.

He shook his head and went through Will's drawings again for at least the fourth time.

To be fair, they were one of the only things Mike had left of Will's.

"You turned our song off."

Mike looked over to see Will sitting beside him.

"I know." He replied.

"Was it too much for you?"

Mike nodded.

"I understand. It's okay if it gets too much. Although you're on this journey, you can still take breaks and do it at your own pace."

"Really? I didn't know I had that option." Mike replied with a roll of his eyes.

"Mike what happened? I thought you were getting somewhere. Making progress. I mean between my mom and the talk with your mom."

Mike looked over at Will.

"You heard the talk with my mom?" He questioned.

"Of course I did, Mike. I can hear mostly everything that goes on with you."

"So you can hear me in the shower too?" Mike questioned.

Will cracked a smile.

"When I want to."

Mike shook his head with a smile on his face. "You're so perverted."

"I am not. I just love you."

Mike's smile vanished. "You loved me."

Will looked down and swallowed.

"Yeah."

"Mike." A voice said.

Mike looked over to see the party plus Robby (he didn't really consider Robby a part of the party) at the bottom of the stairs in the basement.

"What're you guys doing here? How'd you guys get in here?" He questioned.

"Your mom let us in. She was reluctant at first because she said you were really tired, but we convinced her we could cheer you up." Dustin explained.

"Cheer me up how?" Mike asked with a shake of his head.

"We were thinking of going to the movies and getting ice cream after." Max answered.

"Obviously not at Starcourt considering what happened." Robby said.

Mike gave him a death glare.

"Robby." El scolded.

"Come on, dude." Lucas shook his head at the boy.

"Isn't it kind of getting a little late, though?" Mike asked.

"It's only about to be seven." Robby shrugged.

"Wasn't really talking to you, but okay." Mike muttered.

"Mike." Eleven grumbled.

Mike sniffed. "Sorry."

"Go out, Mike. It'll be good for you."

Mike looked to Will, then back at his friends. "Okay. Alright. Let's go."

"Is Will here?" Lucas asked.

"Yeah. He's here." Mike nodded.

"Hey, Will." Dustin greeted.

Max looked down and let out a breath.

"Hey, guys. Hey, El."

"Hi, Will." Eleven replied.

"He says hey." Mike informed.

"And he wants Mike to go with us." El added.

"Mhm. Go on, Mike. Go."

Mike sighed. "Okay. Let's go guys."

"Let's do it."

Mike stood up and followed the party, plus Robby, out and to the movies.
