A week later, Paul Jared and I are chasing the leech with no luck in catching her. She's smart knows how to avoid us catching her and every chance she gets she jumps the treaty line

Emmett Jasper and Rose come up running behind her across the river before she jumps again back to our side. We push forward running faster than ever after her but still no luck

She finally got away, and so we headed home, meeting with Sam and the others telling them what happened

the adrenaline finally wears off, and we're all feeling the exhaustion from the constant chasing her to all the extra patrols

I volunteered for extra patrol, determined to keep Emily and the baby safe and out of harms way. walking over I flop face down on the couch.

Slide over Darlin I hear from beside me

I slide over and Paul lies beside me. clearly patrol was taking a toll on him as well. He runs patrol more than any of us. He flips onto his stomach, closing his eyes.

Lifting my hand, I rub his back until I hear his peaceful snores. laying my hand over him, I fall asleep.

Waking up, Paul is still softly snoring beside me quietly I get off the couch looking at the clock

Waking up, Paul is still softly snoring beside me quietly I get off the couch looking at the clock. It reads 3:14AM

opening the door, I step outside the cool breeze hitting me taking a seat on the little couch looking out at the trees as the rain pelts down on the roof

Looking towards the woods, a glimmer of blonde hair catches my attention. shaking my head a little, I look back, but it's gone. hearing the door open, I turn and see Sam walking out

Patrol already I ask

No, I heard you get up, figured I'd come out and check on you, he says, taking a seat beside me.

How do you do it, I ask

Do what he says

This leaving Emily going out to fight off leeches the constant threats against you, I ask

We were created to protect the tribe. It's our job . It's not an easy job, but it's ours and Emily understands that it's not easy leaving your imprint not knowing if you'll see them again and the constant threats coming our way putting our imprints in danger, but we have to do it he says
