Curse of Curiosity

Start from the beginning

"Parhai kaisi ja rahi hai?" Asked murtasim as he took a sip of his chai and leaned back on the sofa chaise.
Meerab dipped a cookie in her tea and took a bite of it before responding, "theek hai, bas aik chapter ke hawale tumhari madat chahiye thi. Topic nahin samajh araha."

Murtasim and meerab began discussing the topic from meerabs law text book, lost in conversation and chai.

Meesam happily munched on a biscuit and played with her wooden blocks, while her parents discussed Meerab's studies.

Meesam attempted to build a towering structure with her blocks, it was almost as tall as her. She was about to place the last block when disaster struck. She accidentally knocked the tower over, sending blocks tumbling.

In her frustration, she grabbed one of the fallen blocks and flung it across the room, shouting "AH FUCK!", the same word she had learned from her baba earlier.

The room fell into an eerie silence. Murtasim froze, his heart sinking as he watched his daughter break her promise. Meerab's shocked expression mirrored his own. She put her tea cup down and rose to her feet. "MEESAM MURTASIM KHAN! Ye apne abhi kya kaha?!?!?" asked meerab as her voice became louder and louder.

Meesam looked towards her baba for help, hoping he would save her from her mothers anger like he always did, but murtasim knew, in this case he couldn't say anything.

He had explained to meesam that she shouldn't use this word and had warned her about saying it in front of meerab, but a baby with a busy schedule like hers had other things on her mind like feeding her baby dolls lunch and creating masterpieces with her art set.

"Fuck" whispered meesam as her mother walked towards her.

Murtasims shoulders slumped as he watched it all go down. Meerab walked over to meesam and picked her up in her arms. "Kaha se seekha ye lafz?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing in anger.
Meesam sensed the tension in the room and shook her head no. "Meesam, Batao mama ko, main aapko nahi datungi, kaha se seekha ye lafz?" probed meerab, determined to get to the bottom of her daughters sudden use of such foul language.

Meesam looked over her mamas shoulder at her father, he sat there pinching the bridge of his nose as he shook his head in defeat. He knew what was coming next.

Meerab followed meesams gaze only to see murtasim at the end of it. She gasped in horror. "BABA SE SEEKHA?!?!?"

Meerab swiftly turned around to meet the apologetic gaze of her husband. Her eyes shooting daggers at him. "Meerab... I can explain..."

"Murtasim! Tum meesam ke saamne ye kaise keh sakte ho? Tumhe pata bhi hai ke Iss umar main bache apne ird gird hui baaton ki nakal karte hai to phir kaise!" Said meerab, her voice getting higher as she spoke.

"I know meerab, tum theek keh rahi ho, lekin Maine jaan buch ke nahi kaha. Galati say nikal gaya. Wo meri coffee gir gayi aur phir....I'm sorry." Murtasim got up from his seat and came to stand right in front of his wife and daughter.

"Murtasim aisa pehli baar nahi hua hai, tumne kahi baar gusse main aake pata nahi kya kya kaha, shukar karo ke uss waqt meesam ne nahi suna." Said meerab, as she turned meesam to rest her on her hip.

Murtasim understood her concern, but he couldn't help but feel defensive. "Main jaanta hoon ke Mujhse galati hui hai meerab. Lekin main sirf insaan hoon, har waqt perfect rehna ahsan nahi hai."

Meerab's anger flared as she retorted, "main tumhe perfect banne ka nahi keh rahi, sirf ye keh rahi hoon keh meesam ke saamne ehtiyat se baat kiya karo."

Murtasim tried to explain "Main maafi tho maang raha hoon na, aur kya karun?"

Meerab shook her head, this wasn't a small matter. She also didn't want to argue with her husband in front of their daughter. "I cant believe you murtasim...hum baad main baat karen gaye."

She turned and started walking towards the door with meesam still nestled on her hip. "Meerab yaar—" murtasim called out only to be met with his wife's back while his daughter peered over her shoulder.

Murtasim ran his hands through his hair in frustration and mumbled "shit!" .

Meerab was still walking towards the door when meesams eyes lit up in amusement. Immediately after murtasim said it, meesam giggled and copied him. "Hahaha shit."

Meerab froze in her tracks. "MURTASIM!!! We just spoke about this!" She yelled. She swiftly turned around and grabbed the wooden block meesam was holding and hurled it at murtasim, hitting his bicep.

"OWWWW MEERAB YAAR KYA KAR RAHI HO???" yelled murtasim as he clutched onto his bicep, rubbing it to ease the barely there pain.

"Meesam, aaj ke baad main ye lafz aapke munh se na sunhoo! Aayi samajh!" Reprimanded meerab as she faced her daughter again.

Meerabs words had a higher influence on meesam because she knew that when her mama said something, she wasn't messing around. Her father on the other hand was quite easy to push around.

Meesam nodded her head yes. "Sorry mama...." said meesam.

"It's okay. Lekin Ainda se meri baat yaad rakhna." Said meerab as she hugged her daughter close and laid a kiss on her little button nose.

The room fell into a tense silence, Meesam clinging to her mother, Murtasim nursing a sore arm, and Meerab contemplating how to handle this unexpected turn of events. She then turned around and walked out the room, yelling "tumhe tho main baad main dekthi hoon." at murtasim, Her voice trailing behind her.
