Leonard Limerick - The Masked Poet

In the night sky the quill signal shone

It could be seen from everyone's front lawn

It was a desperate plea

That cried out, 'Help Me!'

Then a cloud drifted by, and it was gone

But the sign wasn't missed when it was sent

It was spotted by the dweller in a tent

He didn't have to be asked

As he appeared, fully masked

Prepared to assist - as was his bent

Aboard his three-wheeled Rondel by Haiku

Leonard then raced to fate's rendezvous

He'd vanquish the baddies

Either lassies or laddies

And rejoice when the battle was through

He arrived at the scene in a flash

Made the deal for his service in cash

The image was horrid

The victim's expression was florid

And his distress was causing a rash

The villain was Chester the Croc

And it sat on the green like a rock

A ball had been putted

But the grass was so rutted

The shot he'd played made him balk

On the line was a sizeable bet

So his client hadn't given up yet

With eyes dark as coal

He vowed to finish the hole

Once Leonard captured the pet

Now our hero, he got right on it

Dashed off an appropriate sonnet

The croc was in thrall

Moved away from the ball

And the client then played from the divot

With a cheer from the all grateful gallery

Leonard accepted his generous salary

And with a triumphant thank you

He jumped on his Haiku

And rode back to his tent, where he recorded his latest rescue sonnet, and pasted it in the large album he kept by his bed, along with all his quill pens and ink, then he shut out the lamp, and z-z-z-zzzzzzzzzzzzz . . .
