3. First Encounter

Start from the beginning

She stood 6 feet and 3 inches tall, thanks to her Louboutin heels. Her dark hair carelessly flowed down to her waist but didn't dare to cover her face in any way. She wore an all-black suit fitting her in all the right places and looking devastatingly gorgeous against her green eyes.

Fuck! Her green eyes!

Unlike most green eyes I have seen they didn't resemble a forest, no. Mist. Her green eyes felt as if they would fly away if she blinked too hard, her eyes felt like a consuming mist surrounding me and choking me with no mercy.

Her eyes sparkled with a hint of annoyance and anger, it felt intimidating but weirdly enough, not scary. But comforting in a twisted way. She radiated a natural air of power with every movement. A simple movement like trailing her pointer finger over the stuff sprawled over the counter until she was standing in front of me, was carried out with such elegance that I wanted to laugh in disbelief.

Green mist, power, and elegance. Kamilah Sayeed seemed all this and more...much more.

I mentally shook my head as I snapped myself out of the trance. What the hell was I doing admiring her like that anyway!? She has been the bane of my time here at Jacob Technologies since I started!

"Miss. Sayeed, you are early. Our meeting was scheduled at 5." I said with a glance at the wall clock behind her showing, 4:35 pm.

She didn't reply as her eyes scanned my body as if trying to find something to complain about...maybe she got bored with complaining about my work and wanted to find an appropriate personal insult.

Or maybe it was my dislike for her talking...

"We did, but I am glad that I came early and caught the latest development of my already overdue project."

I gritted my teeth in annoyance as I maintained a calm expression. "Then you also must have noticed that I was telling the truth when I informed you about my bioengineer's incompetence."

To my surprise, she nods and replies with a soft 'yes'.

"But I also believe that you are running late in other areas as well. Areas that do not require a bioengineer. What excuse do you have for it, Miss Williams?" My anger spiked another level hearing the mocking tone when she used my name.

"There's no excuse but the truth. My team and I can't do anything until we understand the biological part of the project. Until then anything we create is useless." I reply firmly. My voice was hard, keeping my anger out of my words.

It's misplaced anyway, despite her mocking and taunting she is right. We are behind. And I don't like fucking up, as my father would say, 'It's unacceptable!'

I hope to god that Martha's cousin is good!

She didn't reply before she brought her hand forward for me as she replied with an anger-laced smirk, "One Week, Miss Williams. Today is Monday and if I don't see considerable progress by next week, rest assured that Jacob will rather lose a newbie than my company."

Sweat coated the back of my neck and my back as I resisted the urge to run my hand over either of them. I have fucked up a lot of things in my life but my career has never been one of them and is never going to be one of them...

"I understand, Miss Sayeed," I said as I gripped her hand for a firm handshake before resisting the urge to flinch and snatch away my hand when I felt the jolt of electricity going through my body at her touch.

What the fuck!? Why did I feel that!?

I can swear to god that I saw her pupils constricting in size as the green mist thundered in her eyes, ready to swallow me whole. Or it's just my imagination...

It may be but I am certain when I say she squeezed my hand tighter until hurt as held my gaze, silently daring me to try to tear my gaze away. I couldn't. I can't.

I don't know how long we stood with our hands joined and eyes locked with freaking electricity shooting through my body but I hoped she felt it too...I don't know why but I did.

*RING* *RING*

Both of us jumped as we snatched away when I noticed my phone was buzzing with 'Best freaking bitch' displayed on the screen with Layla's picture for everyone to see on the counter. Well, for her to see.

I could practically see her smirking as I kept my eyes on my buzzing phone.

"See you soon, Miss Williams." With that, she turned away to walk out and tear my eyes away from my phone to catch her hair flowing out the door before it was gone.

My hands worked on their own accord as I answered the call, pressing it to my ear. All the while my eyes fixed on the doorway from where she left.

"MK! Are you busy!? I have some amazing news!"

I am busy. But right now, I wanted a distraction.

"No. What happened?" I asked in a sombre voice still conflicted about what just happened.

"We are going to see Scarlet Lennox!"
