chapter fifty six

Start from the beginning

"It means," Theodore added, "you're our official shoe in— our backup if you will. We just need to teach you some of the basics and you shall be fine with the game. We start Saturday at six in the morning."

Choking on thin air, Nora couldn't believe how fast they decided to have Nora properly train, slowly blinking to process what Theodore just said. "You're joking?" She scoffed, jaw almost touching the ground.

"Definitely not joking. It's official, we've already told Sluggy and he was so happy for you." Avery smiled, patting Nora on the back, wincing a little.

"For right now, you're dismissed. Enjoy your day." Theodore winked at her, his hand out for her to the lead the way. Nora grimaced a little, fidgeting with her hands before she left the quidditch pitch, a little confused with this decision they decided to do.

Heading back towards the castle, Nora walked her way to the trees, noticing James and Sirius, wondering if she should break the news to them, hesitating and knowing she should get closer with Sirius again.

Walking up towards them felt so hard to do, the two seemed so happy in their own world, almost wrestling each other and mocking one another. Trying to smile and clear her throat, the two boys stopped misbehaving when she awkwardly stood there.

"Nora? Why do you look so constipated?" Sirius asked, her face looking a little unwell. Putting her hands to her face, Nora wondered if she did look like that, concerned a little.

"Merlin, do I really?" She asked, looking at James directly. The boy tried his best to be discreet, mouthing no, as Sirius scoffed a yes.

"Anyways," Nora cleared her throat, "I wanted to tell you— and I guess Potter too, that Nott and Avery made me a swing on the quidditch team. Isn't that exciting?" Shimming her hands in the air with glee, the two boys sat there dumbfounded before registering, getting up from the ground.

"Rory?! That's life changing! Merlins tit!" Sirius jumped towards his sister, wrapping his arms around her as Nora let him. Awkwardly standing there as James got up as well, Nora shimming her arm out for James to high five her. Sirius let go of Nora, both boys having a smile on their face.

"You think Rita skeeter would write an article about you?" James asked, both siblings looking at him wide eyed. "That's a good question, you'd be changing history, like proper history." Sirius smiled more, in utter shock and clapping his hands excitingly.

"Oh I don't know, it's not that big of a deal." Nora shrugged, trying to play it casual. She wasn't dying inside, knowing she'll be a girl on a quidditch team for slytherin, utterly life changing.

"No big deal? Prongs tell my sister she's actually ridiculous." Sirius said, both turning to see James try and speak, the lad almost going mute. Nora screwed her face up when she saw James try to say something but nothing coming out until he looked at Nora.

"It's a very big deal indeed." James finally spoke; clearing his throat and scratching his head. Nora knew this would be an awkward interaction, especially with her brother. But she didn't know it would be this awkward.

Laughing a little, Nora wasn't ready for another hug by her brother when she saw Lupin and Pettigrew come by, wondering what was going on.  "My sister is going to be in the daily prophet lads!" Sirius exclaimed, putting his arm on her shoulder and looking at the three boys.

"They finally made you the swing?" Lupin didn't need to guess, Nora spilling a little bit of her life accidentally after they saw each other smoking. Nora shamelessly nodded, Pettigrew giving the girl a thumbs up, a little confused by what Lupin said, smiling nonetheless.

"James how do you feel with the situation?" Nora heard the way Lupin said that, almost sounding a little suspicious of the two, being sneaky a little. "Certainly surprised Remus." James gritted through his smile, Nora noticing.

"We should celebrate! Host a party? A toast to my dear old sister?" Sirius asked, the group groaning with another party, avoiding his question. "Let's not, I have a ton of studying to do tonight for N.E.W.Ts." Nora counted herself out, taking that moment to exit, looking back at her brother.

Putting her hand on his shoulder as she stared at him for a moment, Sirius knew he was doing too much, yet was too excited his sister shared news with him, both thanking each other. Without needing to say anything, Nora looked at the other boys, mentally greeting them a good day, her eyes lingering on James the most.

Her heart skips a beat every time she stares into his eyes, smiling and biting her lip a little before she looks forward, her smile fading when she saw Evans walk past her and going straight to James, wondering what that was about. She didn't want to turn around, ignoring the stinging feeling of Evans being near James, not wanting to be portrayed as jealous, keeping her head high.

Feeling a little out of place as she would be all alone until the lads are back from practise, her only option was to study in the common room, a little excited. Sirius had gotten in her head immediately after leaving, thinking about how much excitement there would be for her to be in the daily prophet, soon snapping back to reality when she slipped out of the fact she's not a normal girl that could do that, damaging the Pureblood society with a girl playing a boy sport.

It was risky to begin with, especially from two Pureblood boys who adored and cared for her to choose her for the position, nobody having a problem with it since they all care for Nora, cursing them.

Nora always assumed she was invisible to the naked eye, the sister that shunned Sirius therefore she should be shunned. Yet she was wrong, more people acknowledged her when knowing she was in the daily prophet for the wrong things, summer making her look bad.

Entering the common room to the daily prophet sitting in the front table, the headlines were of a death eater stack, immediately snatching one to sit down beside Cassie and Betty, focused on the paper.

DEATH EATERS INVADE MUGGLE BORN HOMES WITH A STRONG MESSAGE, THE DARK MARK ON THEIR DOORS AS A THREAT. RUMOURS SAY THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THEY SEND A MESSAGE BEFORE ANOTHER DEATH.

The front cover was a movie picture of a home that was on fire, the family falling to their knees as they witness what's happening. Nora held her stomach in pain, Cassie gasping in shock as betty put the paper down.

"That's the shite we have to do?" Cassie mumbled, betty yelling for her to shut her mouth, forgetting Nora was sitting right next to her. "To answer your question Carrow. It is, you will have to do that. I can guarantee you, my cousin Bella did the fire. She loved fire growing up." Nora slyly said, sassing the girl a little.

"You don't know what you're talking about Nora. We have do this because we were were chosen." Betty interrupts, shifting in her seat.

"I have a little bit of an idea. But then again, I'm not chosen for this. If I were, I rather choose to the option to die, than listen to him to kill an innocent family for being in the wizarding world. You and I were very different, Flint."
