Overview (I should have added this earlier omg)

The NWU is rather unknown across nearby universes – though it would certainly be regarded as a highly developed nation –, with it making up, with more modern insights, half of the GDP produced by its grid, a grid being a group of 27 universes. The NWU is the foremost military power in their universal grid and a dominant scientific and cultural force interuniversally. It boasts a staggering amount of technological potential to the point where almost anything is possible within its borders; and it is free of all crime, allowing people and nonpeople [aliens] to become who they wish to be and live in endless paradise, defended by possibly the most powerful military in all of existence.

In their calendar, the present day is 35794, though in ours, it would be 18294.

--ETYMOLOGY--

The earliest form of evidence of the phrase "New World Union" dates back to the end of the FNWW from May 1, 24 PE (Pre-Establishment), written in the Second Asteran Convention.  The convention's output letter expressed the writer's (true identity lost) desire to go "with a united cluster of political states in the New World; a New World Union" to seek assistance in the formation of it. The first known publication of the phrase "New World Union" was in an anonymous essay in a newspaper by the Asteran Herald, on April 6, 17 PE.

By October 16 PE, "New World Union" appeared in newspaper drafts and the New World Union Unification Act (NWUUA), authored by now current Emperor, the current head of state of the New World Union, and in the aforementioned NWUUA, written primarily by the Emperor  and adopted by the nation, on July 4, 15 PE.

The New World Union shifted often to more official names for itself, but over thousands of years, the names grew unpopular. Names like 'the United Sectors of Astera' among others, were repeatedly suggested over thousands of years, but simply calling their homeland the 'New World' stuck especially among the older population, and if one was to ask a citizen of the NWU why they still call themselves the NWU, they would respond with "do you know any other New World Union that turns galaxies into artillery batteries and superclusters into cities?"

0 - 1934 - Genesis

"This period is the beginning of the New World Union. Encompassed in this period of its history are its founding, early expansion, and first contact with ETs. In the year 357, the New World Union successfully took over its solar system. This period ended with the discovery of the recipe for immortality. Cults attempting to worship the Emperor of the NWU were also put down during this time as religions like Christianity were brought over by the time travelers and grew in prominence."

1934 - 5648 - Expansion 

"This time was characterized by incredibly rapid expansion and the subjugation of entire clusters within hundreds of years with little resistance, along with planet-takeover rates reaching their zenith at millions per hundreds of years, being possible by way of a self-sustaining cycle the New World Union created for itself, where it would create assets to take over a planet, gather resources from that planet to create more assets, until the cycle swelled to its height before 5648."

5648 - 11045 - Rebirth

"This period was characterized by a lessening in New World Union expansion and a more inward focus and mentality; fostering scientific, social, and parascientific (paranormal science, meaning ghosts i guess) advancements which reshaped the whole of the New World Union, its future, and its general existence. Religions experienced revivals during this time as well, with far evolved forms of early religions spreading around."
